Do any of you people have any knowledge of any bass teaching dvd/video instruction?

If so are they worth it?I am taking lessons at a local music store ,thats a half hour a week though.Thought it may be good to have a dvd to pop in and go with.Any suggestions as to any good ones would be appreciated.

Hope this thread is not inappropriate for this forum.

Im not very old and have only been playing for 7 years, but I got my first real traveling gig at the age of 15. The thing I have found is this. The best way to improve your playing isnt by watching videos. Get out there and try to find musicians to play with who are better than you. That makes you push yourself to keep up. Best of luck to you. Hope this helped.

LOL,thats how I started out earlier this year.Have a friend that I have known about twenty years, and got to talkin with him.Said they jammed two nights a week and to stop by.So I did.First night they got me pedalling the E.

They started teaching me all their easy songs.E string and A string notes.Learned about five of their songs ,and they made a set for me at a cook out of the songs I could play. That was a lot of fun.

These guys wrote all their own tunes, and did hardly any covers. The bass player ,wanted to play rythm and sing.So he was real eager to teach me to play the bass,so he didnt have to all the time.

But a miricle worker I am not. They was expecting me to pull riffs out my arse any second.Plus all the whining that went on.Such and such is late. Are we gonna play some gigs?Do you guys want to play out?Why do I have to do all the work?So on and so on.Temperment, personalities ect.Lot of behind the back talking.I dont like that very much.I just wanted to have fun.

So I decieded that I would check out till I could play better.I was not even thinking on playing bass till I met up with them.Turns out I like the bass.I was just going to learn the acoustic guitar .I am determined to keep on with the bass as well as the guitar.

Now I am back playin with me self. ;) So back to the lessons, and was just curious about any learning aids.

I agree with you ,that being with the band ,gave a lot of drive to get better.I will hook up with them again.I just want to be better with the bass when I do.Got frustrating for the other band members at times ,when they just wanted to jam,and not be in lessons. They all been playing for twenty years,I knew my friend when he first started.Beat on the drums for him a few times.
