Hi guys,

About to purchase my first EBMM SS which is a lefty (almost impossible to find). Anyway, I notice in the photo that the seller sent me that the nut is chipped on the low E side. I am going to play it over the wekeend as the seller has told me there are no issues with playability so we will see. My question is, it is relatively easy to get replacment nuts for these?. I guess if the replacmeent nut isnt filed thats fine, as I can always get a luthier to do it for me. Ideally I wouldnt mind having a bone nut cut for it, so might work in my favour.

This one is a 2001 model SS. Really looking forward to checking it out, as apart from that small issue its absolutely fine. Will be getting it for $1800, which for a lefty actually isnt too bad.

Would appreciate any advice before I pull the trigger.

Cheers guys.

Look up. Waaaaay up.
I have a 2003 Silhouette Special and, as such, doesn’t have the compensated nut that the later models have (2006 and newer). You should be able replace it with any over the counter replacement nut (Nubone, Graphtech, bone etc). Owners of Axis models may correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe speak with a luthier and find out how much it would cost to replace the nut prior to test driving the guitar. That cost would be helpful if you intend to negotiate the asking price.

Nice bit of Birds’ Eye figuring on the neck by the way.

If you wanted to get a compensated nut, you can get it right from EBMM.

But I agree with Pink, check locally for someone that does this type of work.

Let's see that ASS, Pinks right great looking neck!!!!

Would right and left-handed be cut differently? Is it as simple as flipping the nut around?

Good point, I hadn't even thought about that. You can't just flip it. Contact CS if you want the compensated nut and see if they offer a lefty version.

Hello

I'm pretty sure the previous owner tried to put some heavier strings without enlarging the slots and broke the nut.
Now I think it's hard to intonate the string and if you do a vibrato, the string will go on the edge of the neck.
No issues with playability ? well, I don't believe this.
Thus be careful, try the guitar and haggle ! because some work needs to be done on this poor guitar

Thank you for the replies all, I'll get in contact with EBMM for some advice. I have a great tech, that could easily throw in a new bone nut and file it for me. As some requested a photo of the next, here you go. It is quite beautiful.

amigauser, I should have been clearer with my first post. It is my understanding that EBMM guitars made prior to 2005 or maybe 2006 did not have the compensated nut like the newer models do. Therefore you can replace it with any standard nut of your choice.

As I was typing, I saw your latest post. EBMM customer service will definitely let you know of your options.
