Since I own only EBMM basses (two Bongo5s), sometimes I forget how good we've got it.
One of the things I do for grins is act as an independent factory rep for Bose. I don't make a big deal of it here because it's not appropriate, but my rig is one of those Bose L1 systems. It does indeed rock, I utterly believe in it, and I'm more than happy to prove the point to all comers. 'nuff said.
Anyway, last night I was doing my Bose rep thing and the guy was a bass player. So, of course, I asked him to pull out his beloved bass.
It was an Ibanez 5 string Soundgear-something-or-other, 18V electronics. Sounded okay to my ear, but....
Dayum, the thing felt like a junior-high wood shop project. Just...clunky....in every possible way.
I kept on thinking of how beautifully finished my Bongo is, and how wonderfully it plays. Now, I'm no LaRue or Levin or Ball (or even Williams), but I can tell a sweet bass from one that plays like a piece of lumber.
Naturally, I said, "nice bass!" and I meant it with regard to the tone (kind of), but I was itching to direct some Mind Control Rays his way.
Not the time or the place. The Collective is patient. We shall prevail. Resistance is futile. He will be assimilated. His distinctiveness will become part of us. His current bass is irrelevant.
