Just getting into Andy Timmons, I mean literally within the last 48 hours i discovered him. THE PHRASING! His stuff sounds very difficult. My band are doing Tumeni notes. EEEP!! I'm with you guys on that 1. It's going to take some effort that's for sure. Hmmmmmm.
Anything by Holdsworth.
Funny thing with JP stuff. I love DT and I love JP but..... with his stuff i tend to feel its time you have to put in. Its not quite as off the wall as say someone like Andy Timmons or Eric Johnson IMHO. He doesn't seem to have that sort of phrasing.

I would say Erotomania by DT which is probably one of the most challenging piece of music ever. Well, same thing is true about 50% of DT's music so it doesn't really make sense to say that.
LTE songs are super difficult too, and so are Vai's but not for the same reasons.
Vai's music asks less technical abilities but once you nail the standard things, you have to work and think a lot about how each damn note sounds and expresses itself. Same thing with Andy Timmons' stuff, this guy just has one of the most beautiful vibrato/bending technique ever.

Only one springs immediately to mind:

The Clap (Steve Howe) He must have more fingers than I have

Whenever I see a topic like this a couple of players immediately come to mind.

- Holdsworth (a bunch of his stuff is just almost impossible to replicate)

- Bumblefoot with maybe Brooklyn Steakhouse, Vomit and many others with solos that I guarantee only he could play. I need to put the word out here about Bumblefoot anyhow. I mean, he is an EB strings endorser and a great guy! :)

Well, there millions of tunes out there that are well above and beyond what I am capable of...

I'll go with pretty much anything by Shawn Lane, Bumblefoot, Allan Holdsworth, Mattias "IA" Eklundh or Jason Becker - these guys just seem to completely speak through their instruments... each with their own unique voice.

Cheers

Under a Glass Moon - Dream Theater
Stream of Consciousness - Dream Theater

I can manage most of UAGM, however, theres a sweeping, legato, tapping arpeggio that is just ridiculously hard (for me) in the middle of the solo. SoC, I have never heard anyone replicate the solo in that song perfectly...it's just mind boggling. I attempt to play most Dream Theater songs and can manage ok, but Stream of Consciousness' solo is just way out of my league.

That's just two off the top of my head, so many more songs and bands out there that are just unreal.
