Manfloozys roasted maple poll was an eye opening landslide for the Bongo. Let's try a bongo vs. Big al. I have my order in for the Big Al, but have been on the fence.

Man this is killing me too! I have the added quandry of trying to decide which 2 to get! I am leaning towards the Big Al right now as one of them but which one? SSS or H? or Both? I even considered not getting an SR5 and getting both the SSS and the H...Maybe I should start a poll myself! LOL!

Peace,

T

I was also on the fence (Bongo 4H v. Big Al 4H) and went with the Big Al. I posted a thread and got some positive reinforcement on my choice, and now I'm good with it. For me, the mahogany body on the Big Al and the passive option were big factors. If you're looking at the SSS v. the HH, the additional flexibility of the three pickups also favors the Big Al. There are some cool videos floating around with demos of the Big Al SSS and the different pickup combinations.

That said, I think the Bongo will look killer with the roasted neck, and you've already owned at least two HH Bongos so you know what they can do. YMMV, as they say.

Oh I have read your thread and all the others! LOL! I am still having trouble just commiting to a pair! Thanks for the reinforcement!

I voted for the Bongo just because it's the only way you can get it without a painted neck, but I would go with whatever bass model you want the most.

I prefer the Big Al in more subdued traditional colours, so black may be the way to go. I generally like the Bongo in flashier colours, although both would look great in black with a tortoise shell pickguard, one of my favourite combos.

Bill, you've got both of these covered currently... so if I had to pick one I'd say Big Al since you've been digging it lately. If we're going off the reservation I'd suggest considering a Bongo H or Hp, or maybe Reflex HH or Big Al single H.

But I think you made the right choice for you with th BA SSS.

Trying to slowly move the herd to all limited editions if I can. I'll likely sell the Olive Green Big Al once the roasted maple black sugar (breakfast desert) bass shows up. You are right, the Big Al is the go to machine at the moment. The tones are just soooo distinct and useable. It has a soul, I think. I'm hoping the roasted maple is eye candy, too.
