@ Multiversal

Thanks for the definition, though I can assure that I didn't need to copy and paste a definition from somewhere to do know what it means. Your message (both of them) have annoyed me, they served no purpose, and now it's even a repeated incident. Thanks for clarifying.

The reason you PM'd me instead of posting in the thread wasn't so you could keep things private so much as you could use it as an escape tactic. I'm not going to play that game, so I'm again posting this in the thread. You get to make some ridiculous post about how your are going to be the bigger man, then you try take the conversation elsewhere, where nobody else sees it and you can continue to try to insult me while sitting on your high horse letting everyone else believe that you took the high road. Since you're so intent on keeping this private, I'll at least refrain from copy/pasting your PM's on here. Again, if you think I'm being arrogant then that's simply a perception issue on your part and I'm sorry you feel that way.

You really do need to grow up though. I did nothing in this thread other than state my educated and well-thought opinions of Li Jie as a player and you still feel some need to attack me and call me conceited/arrogant. Even after suggesting things to listen to that illustrate what I'm saying, you make it clear that you have no intention of actually discussing the topic and resort to insulting me via PM. Give it up man.

@fbecir:

Does that guy have any recordings (non youtube) that you reccomend? I can't get through Koyunbaba because of the poor audio quality and I didn't like the second one because of the intonation issues (that I'm attributing to the guitar, not him, based on that conversation in the beginning). I don't want to form bad opinions of him based on those. I don't know if I'd like his rendition of Koyunbaba anyway, as his rubato was a bit too drastic for me at times, though seemed alright otherwise. The second piece seemed pretty cool.

Just checked a different video of that second piece. It's a really cool piece and he plays it well. I'd still like to hear it on a better audio format that youtube though:p

Thibault played here once (in 2005, I think), too bad I missed it. As for the Li Jie video, lighten up, people. It's not like any of us can actually stand Paganini... ;)

Meedleyx10, I agree with most of what you have said, I am a classical musician, but we can all chill out really, everyone is quite friendly around here.

By chance I had just heard of Li Pie the first time earlier today, playing a Lauro piece (Venezuelan guitarist/composer) and it completely lacked rhythm and feeling. Asian classical players tend to be perfectly mechanical, real "MIDI players", and thus excel at Paganini. Of course there are exceptions. This is still a girl, she has lots of time to mature musically.

This particular video is amazing. That's the only fact in my post, the rest is just MHO.

I like classical music sometimes and know a few easier tunes well including some Paganini. It makes me yawn for the most part though. I always feel like a robot playing that music, most of it is very calculated and mathematical imo, at least it feels that way to me compared to modern music.

I prefer music more expressive, like this.

Tommy, we feel the same about you with your playing...

+1,000,000 :D

I loved the video and felt plenty of passion in there - with classical it's more in the intonation than the facial expression - :) (makes me wish I'd kept up with the classical lessons.......)
