My friend Tom, a fellow bass player and the guy that turned me on to the EBMM SR5, which led to my purchase of my SR5, have had a long standing debate over the Bongo. He’s bad mouthed them over their looks ever since they came out. I’ve held the position that I liked the looks and that it’s the sound that matters anyway. Plus I’m getting one as soon as THE LEFTY’S COME OUT!!!

Well, I see Tom last night at a friend of ours CD release party, the place was packed. The first thing out of his mouth was “Hey I bought a Bongo!” a black one. Then he goes on about what a great deal he got and how he’s going to bring it to the jam this week and let me play it. Then he remembers I’m left handed…. Oh yeah sorry…

I left disgusted, but I did find his van and put an “I have a small penis” bumper sticker on it. That’s what friends are for.

hehehehe....that's funny. I have a bongo and love it. Some of my friends point and laugh at her, but when they play it, well, all of a sudden they get real serious and love the feel and the sound. Then I am the one who is laughing.....cool story.

Psycho,

I loved the story, but I am concerned that you keep a supply of said stickers on your person when out on the town... :D

Yeah, I’d better explain that a little.

I drove to Greenville, SC yesterday morning to pick up yet another bass amp. I stopped at a real funky truck stop on the way back to get a Coke and in the store part they had this rack of bumper stickers and they were the nastiest, insane and most likely illegal stickers I’ve ever seen! I bought $30.00 worth of them. I’m armed for any occasion!

I’m the most jaded person you’ll ever meet, but I have to admit I was a little embarrassed when I was paying for them. My original plan was to stick them on cars parked in the fire lane at the grocery store, but these are wayyyy to offensive for that. So I’ll use them on my friends. :D

I guess as long as they're put on the window and not the bumper. That can be a bitch to get off.

A better place might be on their bass case when they're not looking. Maybe the bottom.

I'm going to be father for the first time in a few weeks, and I fear some friends to get me a sticker "Baby on board" on my car, because I hate those stickers that are, most of the time, sponsored by a diaper or baby-milk brand (you can have babys without being obliged to have that, which other drivers wont care and still pass you by without any attention for your security).
So I'm trying to put as many cool stickers I can find on the back of my car to avoid that (I have : electro-harmonix, digitech, sorry no EBMM...).

You should use them on those idiots who park in two spaces, even if their car is compact! In fact, I may do so myself! :D

being a tom myself I can tell ya. Getting even is a way of life for those of us that bear that name. Wonder what the payback for the sticker will be?

Still what ya did was funny "I don't care who ya are"( Larry the cable guy way)

Hey, I'm from that neck of the woods. What shop did you go to in Greenville?

It wasn't a shop, it was a eBay deal and I just saved the shipping by going down and picking this up...

Nice guy and he lived in Greer, SC I got a pretty good deal and this amp sounds killer!

I used to play in a house band in Greenville, 30 some years a go at a place called "Chiefs Lounge". It's most likely long gone, but I had a great time back in those days. I love that area.

Hey MNF,

This is an Ampeg B-15R and the “R” is for reissue and it’s in current production. The bottom speaker is a B-15S. It’s all tube and 100 watts with a switch for a 60 watt setting. It is supposed to be a reissue of the 60’s B-15-N, but there have been improvements, like a master volume and way more power. The original version was only 38 watts.

I also have a 1966 B-18-N, in the shop unfortunately, but it’s a killer too.

This one I bought on evilBay and got a pretty good deal, the list price is a bit pricy 2799.00, just for the B-15 R, the S is another 500.00 bucks! I see the B-15R go for around 800.00 on eBay.

A hundred watts don’t sound like much compared to my Ashdown’s 575 watts, but these are tone monsters. James Jamerson used a B-15-N on all those hits.

It’s loud, warm and just too damn cool! :D
