I stumbled across something today. It was this "Lightwave" technology for basses and I am guessing for guitars as well. Seemed kinda interesting how technology is moving. Of course, I am sure all you pros know about this, but has anyone played an instrument with this before?

Pops...ever guys ever mess around with this by chance? Did you do a test run on it or no? I would be intested in your thoughts on this both good or bad. Kinda curious to know what you were thinking if/when you first saw this.

Not to say I would go for something like this...I like my pups....helps keep the "look" in proportion I guess.

Just found it intesting. Thoughts?

I´ve never tried a bass with a Lightwave infra red PU/bridge but I´ve listened on Lightwave´s website. I´m not convinced at all to be honest. Seem to work abit better on fretless than fretted but it sounds too much like a piezo PU. It has that hi frequenzy buzz that I don´t like and the sound samples they have up on fretted bass on the website sounds, I´m sorry to say, horrible. Nowhere near anything I´m looking for. So I´m not interested.

One product that I do find facinating is czech company Neuser´s "fretless" bridge. You get at fretless bass sound on a regular fretted bass.....:

I´m not in particular very fond of Neusers basses even if I have a Clawbass with piano keys on it. But they are inovative. They do things that noone else does every once in awhile and their fretless bridge actually works. And it definately works live. You get a good enough fretless sound in a second. And then back to fretted again just as fast. Good fun and it comes handy in certain live situations.

But Lightwave? No thanks.

Sincerely//Jan
