Question Lined Fretless Material?

What material is now being used for fretless lines? I used to have a neck from the 90's that looked like it was wood, but the lined necks now look like they're plastic?

Still I'm curious if they did change the material, because the neck I had from the mid 90's looked like it had maple.

In its natural form it's actually a tree resin. It is used to make plastic but it's not a plastic product.
It can also be made from Ethylbenzene giving it the alternate name of vinyl benzene.

Does anyone know why they switched material? As I said I think the older lined models (at least in the 90's) used to have what looked to be maple.

We've always used Styrene.

Does the material yellow over time? Just curious why the lines on the bass I posted and other I've seen aren't white.
