What is the brand of the locking nut on my EVH? Is it something that can be acquired from after market suppliers or do I need to go through Music Man?

I'm having issues with what sounds like fret buzz but it's coming from my locking nut. I may try new clamps before I try replacing the whole nut. Your comments are welcome.

Thanks.

go through Musciman, it's the only way to get a sure fit. I got a replacement one for my axis a while back, 100% better.

Good quailty and a good price for spares, plus they're fast and know what they're talking about.

Give customer service a shout if you're in the US - or PM/Email Kevin or Beth if International. - Both do an outstanding job.

I am not on commission.

+1..go OEM friend.
a buddy of mine had a local (Toronto) "guitarist's pro shop" replace his EVH nut and it hung over the fingerboard on one side!!! They then tried to convince him it was perfectly fine!!:eek::eek::eek:
He promptly called CS, got a new nut and had a super local tech slap it on..perfect fit and Happy Ending.
He won't be visiting that Boutique Guitar shop anytime soon though!

Buzzing lock nut!

Hey all, I had the same kind of problem on an Ibanez Jem a fews years back.
Drove everyone CRAZY trying to figure it out.
The problem was that the locknut was sitting with a SLIGHT forward lean and the string was buzzing on the floor of the locknut itself just in front of the locking plate.
The guitar still did it when we tried another locknut as the problem was with the way that the neck was cut where the locknut sits.
The fix was to place a thin shim under the front edge of the locknut (closest to the fingerboard) and this will make the locknut angle back away from the fingerboard just enough to let the string rest on the floor of the locknut.
No more buzz!
Don't feel bad about putting the shim in as MANY locking nuts use shims to get the fit JUST Right!
Good luck and let us all know if this works for you.
Cheers
Trent

I too had a buzzing on my Axis open B string and to a lesser extent on the G string. After many failed attempts of trying different solutions, my last attempt was to swap over the clamps from a Floyd Rose nut on another guitar that i had. As sure as night follows day, it worked! It would seem that the clamps on my Axis did not have "edges", or a "slight raising" on the underneath of the clamp that the Floyd Rose clamp had. Anyways the equivalent nut is Floyd Roses' R2 (others please correct me if i'm wrong), which is the 41.7mm width. These can be picked up from Stewart Macdonald.

Fitting of the nut is simple, unscrew of nut and replace with new one, otherwise jsut try the clamps first.

I just called Ernie Ball for a replacement locking nut for my EVH and was told they no longer carry the exact replacement for that. They use a new style now which doesn't work for the EVH. Anyone out there have any recommendations?

For anyone with the same issue, I purchased this one in the link below and it worked just fine! A bit expensive but if you can find a cheaper one with the same specs go for it!
