Part of the reason I chose to marry her. :) June 26th on the beach in Hawaii.

She wants to have it engraved for me. I asked for suggestions on talkbass, and I'm liking the idea of having the 12th fret inlayed with something, but I'm hesitant for obvious reasons. Any suggestions on getting it engraved???

Wow that's very nice - and congratulations on the present and engagement. Not sure about messages on it - I'd keep it stock but your bass, your call ;)

A pickguard or a neck plate could easily be replaced and then you could have the replacement engraved. Then the original stays perfect, and you have a custom engraved piece on your bass. Although, since it is a gift from your future wife, and you probably won't ever part with it, I'd engrave or inlay it without worry of resell value.

Depending on what you put on it, if you get it engraved it will be like a tattoo, yours forever. Not to mention the disappointment of the spouse. That said, it think it is a great idea! Like most men, I can never remember dates. Wedding date is an option. Or as some do, name her a female name and make it your future wife's name and have it at the 12th.

Well, the classic would be you (in your famous pose) hiding behind it. That or a couple of rings would be nice.

Congrats!

lucky man :)

get a custom inlay at the 12th, preferably something to honor her and you will have a special memory forever :)

congrats!
great looking bass but you know the rules - no pic, no fiance'.

I'd either go for the subtle engravement on the neckplate (both your names and the date of the proposal) or make it super-custom with blocks and binding and the 12th fret's inlay carrying her name, preferebly in abalone.

Congrats x 2 looks great I'd do something on the neck plate like names, date & place, the pickguard is good except that's something you might want to change down the road and the 12th fret dots could be a challenge . Ether way, all the best.

Congratulations! Whatever you decide for the engraving, it should be something you are both happy with.

First off...Congratulations on your engagement Joe!! I'd take a new bass guitar over a diamond ring any day....why do women sell themselves short? I guess it would be tough to wear a nice shiny Sterling HS on their hand. :D

Perhaps you can get a clear pickguard, and put a wedding related photo underneath...or a picture of your bride to be?

Or .... I may upset just about every sane person here but what if you took a pen knife, scraped out a big love heart on the back and put your initials in it like you where a couple of teenagers at a favorite kissing tree !
She ain't ever going to sell her new ring and you should never sell that bass so what would it matter about future value.
I don't think I would be brave enough to do it but hey just a funny idea ;-)
