I am looking for a fretless neck for my 5 string... I have a jazz bass that I took the frets out of, and it turned out really nice, but I got bored with it and ended up buying a warmoth neck, that is nice, but just not OEM. I don't want the same thing to happen with my MM. So a factory lined fretless neck would be great. Can I just order one? Or should I just try to get a warmoth fretless or something?

Agreed, buy a fretless 5 string EBMM. Then you can sell your fretted EBMM, or keep it. Either way, no instruments are being devalued, so it's a win-win situation. ;)

I love having a fretless SR5 and a fretted SR5. Everything is identical except the frets and the color, which means that I don't have to adjust my right hand technique for different string spacing, or remember whether the D string tuner is over or under the headstock on this particular bass, or which knobs do what because the knobs do the exact same thing, hey they're even in the same position. :D

I periodically check ebay. have never seen one for sale. And I agree about buying another one if that's what I am looking for.... but I'm just trying to find a way to use my SR5. I don't like the way it sounds, so if it had something specialized about it, I could find a need for it. For now it is my backup.

I have an idea: take the ebmm neck to a luthier, have him remove the fretboard and install a fretless board. Better than getting a Warmoth neck.

Have a look at Status Graphite's Website as they used to make necks for EBMM and still make replaces. I haven't looked for a while but they just might have a line Fretless SR5 necks as an option.

Trade with another SR5 owner. I traded my fretless SR4 neck for a fretted one and have been happy. You can always trade again later (assuming you find a trade partner).

I found my own fretless (the one pictured in my avatar) on ebay earlier this year. Didn't even have to pay through the nose for it.

I did a quick search, and found a nice looking one up right now, but it's a bit more expensive than the (almost mint) one I found for myself.

but I'm just trying to find a way to use my SR5. I don't like the way it sounds
Ok, tastes differ. :) Maybe you should have a look at the HS or HH models (if the one you've got is a H). The pickup configuration has a big impact on the sound.
