Since buying my 2014 PDN Stingray it has become my number one bass for shows, recordings, and rehearsals. It feels like I've finally found the perfect bass for me, so naturally I'm looking to buy a second Ray :).

I've stumbeled upon this beautifull CAR Stingray, but noticed it only comes with a gig bag.

Musicman, Stingray 4®, Candy Apple Red, Rosewood f/b, Gig bag Bass Direct - MUSICMAN, MUSIC MAN, Stingray, Sterling, Bongo 4, 5, 6 string fretted, fretless- UK Basses specialist

I thought all Music Man basses came with a hard case straight from the factory? Is this some sort of special "budget" run?

Any help and info will be much appreciated!

i believe that musicman has released some verry basic ray's that come with a gig bag, 2 band eq (wich to me is a good thing) and only available with rosewood necks in 3 different colours.
nothing wrong with these stingrays but they are very bassic. same as every usa stingray but no matching headstocks, dual pickups, figured necks, ....

I've never heard of an EBMM without a hard shell case. Some of the SBMM basses come with gig bags.

I'm sure that there are and where stingrays sold without case from the factory. There are few but they do exist. I often see ebmm basses for sale with no case and in most cases it was lost due to 2nd hand sales in the past. Also stolen instruments would often come without cases or even retailers that knock a bit of the price if you dont take the case. Then they sell it seperatly.... but this i have only heard once.

I'm not sure about time frame but there where stingrays sent out without case.

I use one of theses

Hiscox Liteflite Standard Electric Bass Guitar Case | Dawsons Music

Excellent case, my set up is that there all in a rack at home so what ever bass I'm using just goes in one of these then out the door. I Have had mine over 5yrs and never had any issues with it, I highly recommend one of these as a replacement case
(The next step up is a full flight case!)

hiscox makes some awesome cases :)

as for the basses i think distributors can order basses to their specs if they take a certain number of them.
so ordering say 100 red basses with 2 band eq, slab body and bags instead of basses would be possible :)

strings and things would probably be the one to answer if they have made such an order, but i guess to push basses below a magic price point (say 999£) they could probably do it :)

Strings & Things, the EBMM distributor in the U K brought in a number of 2EQ Stingrays in black, pearl blue or candy red with either rosewood or maple fingerboards and a musicman gig bag for under £1K when they first appeared a few years back. That price has since risen by £100 but there are not that many of them out there anymore.
I was after black/maple but had to settle for black/rosewood which is no biggie really. Pretty much all the maple board 2EQ's at this price have gone now.
For some reason these basses are referred to as the 133 series which is the first 3 digits on the product code on the shipping box.
These are just your standard 2EQ Stingrays with a gig bag.
I looked at another couple of 2EQ SR4s in other colours with a case and it was like £400 more at the time.
