Morse Y2D Model.

OK! I've searched all over and watched and listened to some incredible sounds featuring the Morse Y2D but can't find any clean Tones. So, the question is, can the Y2D get the country clean sounds that Steve get's using the standard model?

Any input would be appreciated.

Doesn't get much better than that, Richie!

Very very cool demo.

I might start another thread just to hear you rip on that bridge humbucker.

Great stuff.

John ... So you've decided to get a Y2D over a Standard? Nice. I still can't decide which one I like better, the standard or the Y2D. I want to get another one but can't make up my mind.

I have 2 standards and live near John. All we need to do is find a willing Y2D owner near Northeast PA and we can have a hands on Y2D vs Standard demo .... WE SHOULD VIDEO TAPE IT!!!

Ya know, I have a buddy who has a Morse standard. Maybe next time we have a ball party, we'll record that.

I haven't decided yet! but I'm ready to do the deed. I've owned the standard but it's been a long time ago and can't recall all the sounds. It would be nice to just sit down with both models and then decide but it seems to be difficult finding a dealer within driving distance that has both in stock....

Just find a store with a Y2D and then ROAD TRIP!!!

GC near us had two Y2D's for a while. One fixed and one with a floyd. I demoed both up against my Standard. It was a close call. The Y2D seemed to have more bite and a bit 'hotter' on the treble side.

In the end I really missed the neck-single-coil options on the Y2D so I went and ordered another standard with a floyd.

But that is just my taste ...

That was a great demo Richie! For some reason there are not too many demos of the Y2Ds and the Morse model other than Mr. Morse himself which in itself is more than enough.

Hey LegGodt, how are you finding the floating trem on the standard? Meaning, does the two way toggle get in the way sometimes when using it? Also wondering what tone difference you notice between the hardtail and trem models.

I love my Y2D, and I'm holding out for the chambered blackburst Y2D with a floyd...but I also really want a standard as well. I want the standard Morse for the extra single coil option and also I take it that it sounds a bit warmer/thicker than the Y2D.

I'm really hoping they do. I asked Steve himself when he was in NYC at The Iridium, and he said yes but there needs to be some more work done on it. I think his main thing is that the bridge pickup on the chambered version really overpowers the neck pickup...that's really all I know. I just think it's really one of the most beautiful guitars ever!

Stealing a pic from Colin over at Guitarplanet.com.au :D

The 2-way toggle was getting in the way at first, but after a while I got used to it. Just a matter of knowing it's there and working around it. I also reversed the toggle so down is off, so there is less chance of hitting it 'On' ... now if I hit it when I dive I just hit the switch and nothing happens. But that hasn't happened in a while.

As far as the tones, I had 4 or 5 GC employees helping me out and listening as I demoed the Y2D hardtail vs. the Y2D floyd. We all agreed that there was a slight ... and I mean SLIGHT difference, but nothing dramatic. They both still sounded like EBMM Y2D's. The one just reacted to bends and sustain a little differently.

Unfortunately I can't give more details because this was last summer. BUT, I do won a Standard Fixed Bridge Morse and a Standard Floating Floyd Morse. Maybe if I get some time I can take the lappy downstairs and try and get some demo's.

@Richiesos ... What was your set up for that Demo? Did you just use a laptop or an external camera and mic? I have an Engl InVader so technically if I set it up similar I should get the same quality demo. Thanks!

I was actually referring to the difference between your standard Morse models with the hardtail and the floyd. I definitely would like a floyd, but on the standard it just seems to be a bit clustered...thats why I asked if it got in the way. Of course you get used to it...but I'm going to try and see if that blackburst comes out. If not, I'll get a hardtail standard and another Y2D with a floyd down the line. Gotta have at least one guitar with a floyd to have some fun with :D...and I actually like the fact that it is floating.
