Low Down Bongo

Chaps,
I would like to take my Bongo 4 HS to new lows and use her tuned B-E-A-D.
I currently use Rotosound Swing Bass 45-105 on my 75 Precision but I want to plumb new depths with my Bongo, currently playing dubby blues a la Little Axe.
I am sure the B-b-b-bongo will take the strain, but what strings do you recommend I use? Guage? String type and Make?
Anybody else doing that low yoyo with a Bongo 4?

Just get a 5-string set of EB Regular Slinkys and don't use the G string.

You'll need to re-intonate, of course. Don't know if you'll need to fiddle with the nut or not...if the strings don't fit into the slots you'll have to file them.

If you have the stock strings, just get a .130 B-string. You will need to widen the slots, but that shouldnt be too much of a problem. I think you will also need to loosen the truss rod somewhat, as I *think* a 0.045 g-string has more tension than a 0.130 B.
