I recently bought the MM JP and when I first removed the tremolo arm I noticed that the end of the arm which is put inside the bridge hole was covered by some kind of lubricant.

Questions:
- Does anyone know what lubricant is that?
- Should I always keep that part lubricated?

Thank you guys!

Bruce,

I'm going to guess that your local dealer added that lubricant. I bought my JP6 last year, and I opened the shipping box myself and was the first to touch it outside the factory.

It shipped with the tremolo arm removed and laying in the case, with no lubricant on it whatsoever.

To this day I have no lubricant on mine, but I don't think it could hurt anything. Maybe the bar was squeaking and someone lubed it to eliminate the squeak?

There is no lube on the arm from the factory. Maybe the dealer used some.

 Wow!!

This is surprising to me.

Thank you very much for those clarifying answers.
I do hope no issues will be caused by that lubricant. This guitar is really a wonderful instrument and I'll be pissed if anything goes wrong, specially because the "setup" was likely done by the dealer and nobody told me that at the store.

This lubricant issue I noticed with my MM JP Desert Gold (God, I love this color so bad!!!)

Thank you very much again, guys!

Bruce,

You're welcome, and welcome to the forum. We try to be helpful when we can. I wouldn't worry about that lubricant causing issues. I think Jon would have given you a heads-up if it was something worth worrying about.

Enjoy your guitar! I can't wait to get home from work so I can play mine (Pearl Redburst JP6 w/piezo).
