Hi,
I just bought a Luke and I was comparing it to my Fender Strat w/ the DG-20 (David Gilmore) EMG setup. I really like the EMG SPC and EXG controls on the DG-20. They boost the mid range tones (EXG) and the lows & highs. (SPC) I think if the Luke had these, the guitar would be even more versatile. Has anyone ever tried this? Is there enough room in the "cavity" to fit the extra contols? The Musicman Luke is a great guitar. I would just like to expand on it.
Let me know!

You did Rob...? You felt the Gilmore pickups weren't as sweet as Luke's pickups..?

Can you elaborate upon what you thought the difference was just a little more..?

You've got my curiosity going...:)

Thanks Rob, Lucid

The SPC is the mid range boost and the EXG the low/high boost. I have the SPC on a rodded strat I put together with some Dimarzio VV pups and it sounds absolutely fantastic! I'm still considering sticking the SPC in the Luke as there is definately enough room for ONE of these circuits if you sacrifice the tone control but not both (unless you want to sacrifice your volume control that is ) as the circuits are built onto a pot so you can control how much signal is passed through.

I've been using the tone control on the Luke a fair bit recently for an upcomming gig so I think I'll keep it as is, although I have been thinking about sticking both the SPC and EXG in a home made stompbox case. :D

Hope that helps.

well to be honest the tone of the gilmour set seemed totally wrong. i'd heard the luke pickups in a strat and it sounded amazing, thats how i got onto the Luke guitar in the first place. a few months ago i played two different strats with the gilmour pickups, and both sounded odd, the extra boost i guess was good, but i didnt see the need for it. the pickups themselves werent at all like the luke . much woodiersound, not as sharp or punchy as the luke. made me very glad i have a luke!!!
