Luke III HH Trem Pivot Screw Distance / Trem Swap

Hi,

I want to swap the original MM vintage trem with a sophia 2:22 deluxe trem and mount a locking nut on my LIII.

Does anyone has experience with this trem or did something similar?

Does anyone may tell me the exact original distance of the trem pivot screws of my LIII?

Any particular issue you're trying to solve? Sounds like a pretty significant modification.

My measurement with calipers from center of post to center of post on my Luke 3 is approximately 2 1/32 (2.0350) in. or 51.69mm

Hi Racerx,

after use of tremolo, the E and A String is 25-30cent out of tune. The guitar was already checked by 2 luthiers and the nut had been swapped one time.
Maybe the pivot screws and or the baseplate is damaged.

I just want to get a stable tremolo. So i decided to mount a locking nut and a vintage trem where I can tune each string by its own, like the sophia 2:22 with micro-tuners.

In my experience, MM trems - of any sort - are usually dead-on accurate. If you have a defective unit, you can send it to MM and they'll swap it for a new one.

Alternatively: You mentioned having taken it to two luthiers. Before engaging in major surgery, I'd suggest contacting MM support and arrange to send it to them.

For sure MM could help me, but for me it seems that I'm spending more and more money for nothing. So I thougt, I make a "cut", installing a locking nut, and there will be no issues any more.

But I'll think about your words!

I agree about contacting MM- discuss it with them before you do anything. There's no real magic here- this should be a fixable issue.

Another point to keep in mind is that you'll affect the resale value by replacing the nut/trem. If this is a keeper that doesn't matter, however if this isn't a forever guitar you might want to consider that.
