Okay, so I've been on the prowl for a couple of days for a good lookin' Luke. I went into Guitar Center today to try one, and the neck is just so different to me. It started to grow on me in the store, though.. and eventually I started loving it. The action was a bit high for my tastes in the store, but it was all good besides that.

But, did anyone else have the same thing happened to them with the neck.. or was it a natural fit right away? I'm digging the frets, too.

It's a lot different than my Petrucci, but that's the whole idea. It's not a pure riffin' metal machine, but it COULD handle it if I wanted it to.

I've been invited to do a lot of studio work recently, and I need something ultra versatile which is what brought the Luke to mind.

Anybody else think that it is a good choice? What about the Silo Special.. or perhaps just the Silo? Or hell, should I get another Petrucci?

I really want to make this purchase count, because it will probably be my last for a good while.

(Pete's got a WHITE Luke in stock with a matching headstock.. and a Blue Dawn.. Pete will be getting a phone call from me tomorrow. :D)

Do you refer to the V-profile?
I played a V-shaped-neck on a fender lately - strange but interesting feeling. I still can´t decide if I like it or not.
This may not be helpful because I never played a LUKE. I hust know, that V-necks produce strange feelings ;)

I wouldn't say that I prefer it, but it definitely did bring about some strange feelings! I'm not sure, but I think I kinda like it! It's sorta like a new pair of underwear..

Anyway, yes.. the V-neck.

That "Luke" has such a fabulous neck back profile, fretboard size & radius and fret size - it's really the ideal neck set-up all around!!

If you have a JP already then it's time to give Pete a call for the Luke - but, hey, the Axis is right up there too, different spec's but equally "hot"!!:)

I've never tried a Luke but I know V necks do take getting used to.

I do some local studio work, and the owners are always impressed with the bases that can be covered by the Silo Specials.

I do about 80% of my work with a Luke.... the neck is fabulous when you get used to it... which shouldn't really take long... I do teaching seminars and I also do theatre work and lots of live gigs in various different styles from big band Jazz to country to pop to some really heavy rock and not once has the Luke been found wanting in terms of tone or playability... it's a real all rounder which just excels in so many ways... all EBMM's of course are fantastic but in my book the Luke is the one guitar that stands at the front... if you can't do it with a Luke... forget about it...:p

My first EBMM was a Luke and the neck was never an issue, I have had a few different Lukes since and they are all great, I guess for me it was a natural fit and it is as versatile as it gets, any doubt just listen to the man himself, lucious, or check out some of Tylers work with his Luke, I really think you would be happy with one:)

Besides all of that.. WHITE is always a classic color. :D

Thanks for your replies, guys. I think I'm gonna go with the Luke. :)

I never played a V neck before but still....I bought my Luke without never having a chance to play it first. I took a chance, and the V neck was never an issue....fits my hand like a glove. It's my main axe!

same here.

I always played Ib@nez type necks, being a lefty and all, and the Luke was a good fit. After a week of playing, it was perfect.

I find it *really* comfortable. Effortless. I can now play things that were a struggle on my old Ibanez Roadstar II (which wasn't a terrible guitar...it served me well). The Luke just makes everything so much easier.

Since getting my Luke, I have had to adjust my string bending technique on the top two strings, but that's more to do with my poor technique  and the slightly lower action on the Luke rather than the Luke's neck.

If you can get past the "V" neck...it is a great guitar. However, I couldn't, but to fair, I have not been able to sit down with it for a long period of time to get used to it.

Let's put it this way....you want versatility.

Who on this God given planet is more versatile than Luke himself? No one.....the guitar is a tool he uses and he uses the EBMM with his namesake on it. The Luke can do whatever you want....take a look on Youtube...he will show you from metal (with Marty Friedman) to blues (nice little solo number) to whatever you want.

The neck is the hard part for me to get past....I don't know why...just is. I would love to find a Luke that I could be comfortable with....just haven't yet.

Hey David, i used to collect Roadstar II's! I had like 7 of them!

Wow! When I got the Roadstar II (decades ago), it seemed to be *the* guitar to get without going into Fender or Gibson camps (or buying a really high-end guitar). But now that I've got the Luke, I've become an EBMM addict, and there's no going back! I now know what Lachlan has been going on about for so long!

I'll never get rid of the old Ibanez...we've been through too much together! ;) ...but it has -- in effect -- become my eldest daughter's guitar, at least until we can get her an EBMM of her own.

I still have a Trans Blue one, I also had a black one and several red ones, i hated the trems on them, but i loved the necks.

Argh..the trem! Don't get me started! It has those bridge pins that you have to screw in and out when changing strings. (All the screws in mine need replacing because the threads have worn or the bottom half has snapped off.) And those tuners on the bridge...I'd always bump them at the worst possible time!

In contrast, the trem on the Luke has been fantastic...I can do anything to the trem and guitar stays in tune beautifully.

I don't know what you'd call the neck on the Roadstar...C profile, D Profile? Whatever it is, I took to it really quickly, and always found it very comfortable. It's been my main guitar for about twenty years. But I've decided that the Luke neck is more to my liking. Maybe it's the profile of the Luke neck, or maybe its because the neck is unfinished. Or both....I don't know, but I find I want to play the Luke all the time!!

Try getting replacement parts for the RS, impossible. Yours an RS530?

I was afraid of that! I'm planning on taking it to a guitar tech soon...it needs some other work...so I'll see if they have any luck sourcing parts. (But I'm not hopeful.)

I can't remember what model it is off-hand...two (split-coil) humbuckers, 24 frets...and that trem. I must look it up. (I still have the glossy brochure somewhere!)
