Has anyone ever felt that the nut placement on their guitar was incorrect? All roads are starting to point this direction on my Luke II. I am finding it impossible to properly intonate the B string. It is eternally sharp all over the neck. and I've adjusted the saddle along its entire length with no joy. The nut itself is impeccably cut and all six strings are breaking off of the front of each nutslot with a slight fall towards the back of the nut. I have two EVH's and a Silhouette and they are just perfect from the factory. I have read all about the Buzz Feiten nut, the Earvana nut and the eNut systems and can see merit in all of them but I would only consider one of these if the new EBMM compensated nut, that will come standard on EBMM guitars from the middle of this year, is not available as an after market purchase. This would be my first choice if I have to down this route, as I'm sure it would be perfect. Has anyone any had any of the above problems, and could you give me any pointers please?

a nut slot is in the wrong location would affect all your strings.......not just your 2nd string........is the bottom of the string slot worn back on the 2nd string???

No Tommy, all my nut slots look perfect ie. breaking off the front and sloping back towards the headstock. How do you intonate your guitars? what tuner do you use?

Guitar temperment sucks! I just spent some time with the co inventor of the Buzz system, I'm going to be converting to it. Seems silly to fight the guitar anymore now that there are solutions. ;)

All of our instruments will have compensated nuts.
(ed) starting in June 2005.

Does that include instruments with Floyd Rose Tremolos and their corresponding locking nuts?

Will replacement nuts be available for existing guitars (even floyds)?

i typically use the peterson vs1 at my bench.....
also have an old korg rack dt1 ... also works great.
also have used a boss tu2 pedal tuner in strobe mode that works well....
my fav is the peterson strobostomp pedal tuner if i was only allow 1 tuner....

i always lower the pickups flush w/ pickguard (when applicable) when setting intonation ...this allows for a MUCH more stable pitch measurement. the pickup magnets make the pitch quiver when they are close to the strings. especially measuring up high...... ...(you may want to measure your typical pickup heights first so you can put them back to normal when finished)

ASSUMING YOUR ACTION IS SET.........

1. simply tune the guitar to pitch....
2. then go to each string one at a time
3 lightly play an open string & measure the pitch...
4. fine tune it (playing lightly)......then
5. play the note lightly at the 12th fret measuring the pitch.
( if it is flat....skip step 6 )

6.if it is sharp...adjust the saddleback some.... & repeat step 4 & 5 til perfect
7. if the note is flat...adjust the saddle forward some ....& repeat step 4 & 5 til perfect...
8. repeat for each string...
thats BASICALLY it.....
higher action will set differently than low action......
