I'm not good at describing tonal differences, but the Luke sounded a little more compressed or something. But the REAL reason for buying the Silhouette was the neck.

+1

I played the Luke again today in the local GC where I got my used Silo Spec. Played it through a Mesa Express 5:50. I still like the Silo Spec more, and my position was reinforced. I'm not really disappointed by the Luke. I just like other things better. If I'm going to try an amp in that store, though, I'm reaching for the Luke. All the other guitars are non-EBMM. So, I'm not going anywhere near them.

I still want to try the BFR Luke, though.

Good stuff Rob, thats how i feel too, i just like the Silo Special better, i'm pretty sure i'll own another Luke one day though, its a fine axe. I reckon when i get my hands on a BFR Luke i may not be able to resist!

I did a gig last night, used my Silo Special for the whole gig. What a fantastic axe it is, so punchy and clean, even the bridge pickup is great- not whiny like a strat.

I absolutely plan on having a Luke as well. It's just going to happen after I satisfy other urges first. :D Let's just say it's not one of my priorities.

If that Luke is in that GC long enough, I may rescue it someday.

I honestly think that if I had one or more of each model, the Special would still be my go to. I've said here before, if I could have a completely custom guitar, built for me and around me, it would wind up being a stock Silo Special. Only thing different might be the color, just to be different :p.

If I get another, it'll likely be an AL. Unless it's another Special :D.

I have a Luke and an Axis SS and love them both. The Lukes neck is divine and I find it's soft V very comfortable. Not thick, not thin, just right!

As to those EMG's, I think they are great and very different from the passive HB's in the Axis. In a higher gain situation they are way way more controllable than the Axis, and just have such a different response, really good with effects too. I really like them and find my playing is different because of it.

On cleans the 4th position is great too, perfect for twangy bluesy stuff.

I've tried an Al and really liked that too so that'll be on the shopping list one day...but cannot comment on the Sil...
