Does anyone know if the Luke v neck is patterned after the Fender 10/56 v-neck shape? Or has anyone compared the two? I've googled around and searched on this forum, but haven't found any info.

I love the 10/56 shape, and v shapes in general. Just haven't been able to try out a Luke yet.

Also... Hi! First post. Good to be here! I've been drawn in by the Luke III teasers...

I haven't owned a Luke (just several Silhouette Specials plus an Axis SuperSport) but I've played a few and I've owned a Fender CS '56 Strat. The 10/56 neck is thicker than the Luke neck; the Luke seemed to me to be closer to an AV '57 or a Hot Rod '57. I can also say that the Luke necks I've tried out have varied - EBMM does a lot of hand sanding work on their necks and some of them come out a "sharper" v shape than others.

I would try a few Luke necks also I have had one with a neck I loved and one with a neck i couldnt stand. If you do find the right one it can be a comfortable neck. Good luck.

I'm no expert, but I don't think it was. If I recall (it's in here somewhere), Dudley made the neck profile for Luke based on what he thought he would like, and Luke liked it. Dudley didn't work on Luke's stuff when he was at Valley Arts, and I don't think they based it off a prior neck.

I had a '62 Strat damaged during a hurricane some time before the very first Lukes came out. I was so bummed.... until I played the first Luke I had seen at the old Reliable Music in Charlotte, NC. The Luke neck felt so much like my 62's worn and comfortable neck ... I bought it quickly.

Thanks for the replies, all. You gave me some clues for more googling, and this turned up, quoted from a Vintage Guitar article in 2000:

"Lukather: "After Valley Arts sold out, Sterling Ball became a close friend, and he approached me about doing a model. The other signature players involved with his company were world-class, and it turned out Dudley Gimpel, who designs MusicMan guitars, used to work for Valley Arts. I sent him my favorite Valley Arts neck, and he put it on a computer scanner, and made me a neck that was better." '
