Hi. As far as pickups go, which model has higher output pickups? I tend to like really hot pickups... I know that the EMG was fairly hot, how is the new crunch lab as far as output goes? I imagine, that just by nature the humbucker in the neck of the jp6 puts out more than the EMG single... but I'm more curious about the bridge pickups!

Thanks,

Jason

So you guys are saying the Luke pickups are actually hotter, and put out more output than the petrucci???

Basically, I tend to like pickups that put out tons of output and hit the amp real hard for a real thick sound. FOr example, I love the (hate to say it on this board) peavey wolfgang pickups. THe silhouettte pickups didn't do it for me...

So the Luke pickups are hotter than the crunchlab/liquifire???

I don't know, when the Luke is played on the same amp following the Petruccci, you have to turn up the volume to get the same loudness.

The DiMarzio site only states output as 410 (and not if that number is in mV's or whatever) and the EMG site writes 85 Output Voltage (Strum): 4.50

Voltage and resistance measurements are very deceiving. There's no standard for how you make them. Also, the energy is distributed across different frequencies with those sets of pickups. (The Lukes are more even whereas the Petrucci pickups are more middy.)

I have both a Petrucci and a Luke. My output on my Luke is much hotter than the Petrucci, but I don't have the newest Petrucci pickups. Mine has the D-Sonic in the bridge. We record at church every Sunday as well. It's obvious when I'm using the Luke over the Petrucci. Different sounds in their own right, but the Luke records a little better in our setting.

the 85 is not that hot i think, It's supposed to be a somewhat articulate pickup.

if you want good high-gain pickups (not active), seek out Bareknuckle pickups (Warpig model or painkiller) , or the newest dimarzios made for petrucci.

EBMM should make pickups specially for their artists, I will be the first in line to get them all, I'm sure they can be as ingenious as their bridge assemblies and as awesome as their guitars, 100% sure of that.

Well by EMG's own standards the 85 81 and 60 are all rated the same output. These are all very popular for high gain metal. The 85 has actually slightly more voltage when playing a single string go figure. The only real difference between them is their resonant frequencies.
