dear musicmanners,i saw lukather playing the vai gemini distortion ,also petruci!the sound was great.
i have a satesman hughes kettner el 84 ,great amp but i think it's not the right amp for my luke!!!.let's say a bad vintage-modern combination.
has anyone played the gemini distortion with a luke? so far i've tried couple of black star and tubaman valve drives but......i need somethig else.
sugestions?

well, if the amp isn't doing it for you then you might consider off board distortion. for leads, i recommend the tonebone hot british. i have no experience with the tonebone classic, you might as well try that one out as well. luke himself endorses the classic. the hot british sounds like a mesa mark iv to me (the way i use it anyway).

i own the dist-x from black star. not much fun anymore as it adds tons of noise.

there are TONS of solid state overdrive pedals out there. it's just a question of trying them till you find one you like. as far as boosters go, i'd try a radial PB1 or a MXR boost (the newer black one).

Ive played the statesman too with my Luke, I thought it was pretty good actually!!! Takes pedals really well, which is what I look for in an amp, I rarely am impressed with an amps onboard gain, I prefer my various pedals tone anyway. The statesman is a quality amp!
