machine head

My EB sting5 i've had for 4 1/2 years has suddenly been causing me some grief. the D & G strings (brand new) are slipping of the machine head post when tensioned. I have temporarily addressed the situation by winding the string across its self.
has anybody experienced a similar occurance.

Most likely bad windings on the end of your current set of strings.
I've had this happen and hell what else could it be anyway unless you mean the tuners aren't holding tight?
