Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the Mahogany "tone-block" and active pickups. I am interested in possibly getting a "Luke BFR" Does anyone know or can explain the degree of effect the wood of a guitar will have with active pickups.

I once owned a shh quiet F custom shop with an EMG dg-20 system and sold it. I am now a proud smy2d owner. :))

Might wanna give it more than 32 minutes.... ;)

I got to A/B the regular and BFR LUKEs today. The BFR was lighter than I thought it would be, which was a plus. Tonewise, the BFR had a lot of sustain and a very rich, full-bodied tone.

The way the strings resonate can be affected by the body woods. The pickups will reflect that one some way or another, be they active or passive.

On the BFR LUKE they reflect it in a good way for sure!

This was very apparent at the Toto show last night.

Great looking guitar Trock!

Pete, was this AB thing done clean or with distortion? Actually, now that I think about it, never mind.

... on a Friday night ;)

Great Y2D! That's a stunner.

As Pete says, the wood is going to affect the sound- EMGs are more tonally balanced across all frequencies than most passive pickups and so they'll pick up the differences.

What's been said about the Mahog Tone Block (MTB) is that you get more lower-mids in the sound. To my ears, the 20th Silo based on that design has a "thicker" sound. I would expect the BFR Luke to reflect that as well.
