Hi everyone!

I currently own a Majesty 7-string from 2019 in kinetic blue and love it to pieces. I was wondering however if the difference in output level between neck and bridge pickup I am seeing is normal. According to my Quad Cortex the (input) level coming from the neck pickup is about 5-8 dB lower than the bridge pickup. I get around this using the boost, but I am still wondering if this is normal. It feels weird to me since my lead presets work for soloing on the bridge pickup, but I need the boost to match that output (and playability) on the neck.

Could this be a bad pickup/wiring issue or are you guys seeing the same?

It shouldn't be that far out of whack. Does the neck pickup sound thin or nasally on it's own?
I wouldnt say so, the sound is fine once the levels are compensated. I also have a scratchy volume knob, which does not bother me by itself. Could an issue with it affect one pickup independently, i.e. that the volume of the neck pickup is not "maxed" although the bridge pickup is?

Is there a good way to measure the output to compare it to spec (if there is documentation about target values)?

My Honey Butter JP6 had this ‘feature’. EBMM said JP likes it that way, or met spec or something like that (although I never noticed neck PU having lower output on my other JP guitars). I have not measured it, however. And truth be told I do not use the neck PU top much.

At any rate, EBMM put a couple small washers under the bridge PU to get a bit more signal and now it matches the output of the bridge PU. The guitar was in their shop anyway for other issues anyway.

Have you measured the distance from strings to PU for both bridge and neck PU’s? There could be a noticeable difference which is contributing to the signal strength.

No.

Also no.

Can somebody do a test with their majesty recording into a daw and switch pickups part way through and see what kind of differnece we see it RMS values or LUFS-I?
