Thanks for pointing this out.... String response is pretty even, so I am not sure how much I need to mess with the string height, although I do tend to like lower action. Not sure why I never checked this before. I think I was wowed by the sound so much I had been ignoring the intonation.

This gives me great hope for my fretless playing :p
Awesome! as for height, yep, raise 'em/lower 'em as you feel lead.
It is a blast to work on it yourself and get the confidence atleast to know that hey, it really is just a chunk of wood, albeit an AMAZINGLY ENGINEERED chunk of wood, still to not be afraid of some tweaks is a good thing and a cost saving feature as well :D
as for your fretless playing... YES! I can remember being so bummed about my intonation playing and then I kicked on the tuner and checked the normal tuning and went "duh!" so imagine if your intonation is set... you'll be Jaco and Pino before you know it!! or MingusBass if yer lucky enough! [seriously, he's a resident 'Cat'!]

I may like my woman naked and dirty...

The dirtier the better (and the tastier)...

Back to the thread, nice cleaning job. I loved both PG, maybe loved the first one a little more (not a great buttercream fan sorry), it was giving a "military touch" to the bass.

Congrats !

We've mentioned intonation, but how about where the G sits above the pole piece?

Anyone?

I have to add that I love the colour & I think you've put the best PG possible on her.

As for the clean up job, great work.

IIRC, for Humbuckers like MM's pole piece allignment it is not essential that they line up down the center because the magnets are so big. Plus like I stated before, string to string response is pretty even.

Here's a quick intonation question: What's a good starting spot for the saddles with new strings?

When putting new strings on, should you set the bridge saddles at about half mast, and then string it up, tune it and adjust the saddles from there?

I don't worry Fuzz, I just put the new strings on in the same position.

I take the string s off 1 at a atime to maintain decent neck tension, measure new vs old for length, then cut to size and bang 'em on.

I don't think we suffer in terms of heat/humity changes here (well, I can't say that I do where I am), so I don't really play with my set up too much.

I'd loosen the strings. Then loosen the neck bolts slightly. Move the neck a tad to the right (looking at your pic).

If the neck is a tight fit in the body be careful. You could chip the wood on the side of the body pocket or crack the finish.

I'm not that brave, and as long as the 'G' string sounds even in regards to the other strings, why should I need too?

You probably don't need to change unless you want things to look perfect if it sounds like you want it to.

Most of the time though the strings line up pretty accurate over the pole pieces.

Wait for EB staff to tell you what to do on this one IMHO.

The majority of us are guessing.

FYI, I just went through the "Show pics of your pole pieces" thread on the Dudepit and I would say about 75% of the pics looked like mine. Doesn't really matter though.
