Off Topic Maple Vs. Rosewood Necks?

Hey everyone,

I was just curious to see what kind of unfinished necks you all preferred. In my opinion, Rosewood feels faster and smoother than maple, although also seems more vulnerable towards scratches, dings, warping, etc. What are your preferences?

Maple all the way for me, though I would love an Axis with an ebony board!

I have the Silho with a full rosewood neck, and it is amazing.

I also own an Ibanez PGM, with a full maple neck, which is also amazing.

They´re 2 different animals as far as tone goes, maple being much brighter than rosewood (which is heavier in tone).

And, if it is a MM neck, you can bet your balls it will provide an OUTSTANDING feel and sound

The Brazilian rosewood necked PRS I used to own would give ebony a run for it's money. They don't call it "Brazilian" for nothin'. It's smooooooth.

In that case:
1. Rosewood
2. Roasted maple (oops that's finished)
3. Maple

The ends of my fingers have callouses on them and as such are less sensitive to touch or temperature. The maple fret board on my Reflex feels as smooth as anything I have ever played and that includes ebony and Brazilian rosewood boards. Pretty sure our eye's influence us much more than we care to admit.

Be interesting to see the results on a group blindfold test using different fret board woods based on just feel. Same goes with neck material can you honestly feel if the neck is maple, rosewood (roasted or otherwise) on your balls? By the way I am not saying you can't just genuinely interested to know.

Why can we just enjoy them all!......Who says we can only have one? I love full rosewood, and I also love the Maple Necks on my new Tributes....smoooooth like a baby!!!!!

If it's necks and not fretboards, then I'm going to lean towards rosewood. I had a guitar with a rosewood neck that I'm pretty sure that I could recognize blindfolded.

Same here. The first time that I played an ebony board, I just kept thinking how buttery smooth it felt. It's really noticeable.

anything unfinished is my favorite, but i have more experience with maple. i held an Al HH w rosewood neck the other day, and it didn't feel much different in my hand.
