I think I have narrowed my search down to just two cabs to put with my Markbass LMIII. These are the Markbass 112H Traveller and the Aguilar DB112.

I need two 1x12 cabs and I’m after a focused mid range for projection and the finger style jazz/fusion sound that I’m into. I'm playing a SR4 with EB group3 flats.

I can try both of these cabs but it will require a day out and quite a long drive, which is fine, but if anybody here has tried both cabs or has any opinions on either that would help a lot. Thanks.

PS: That should have read Markbass in the title! OOPS...

The Aguilar DB cabs are heavier, but the mids are fantastic. You get a huge sound from 2 of them! The high end is sweet; the tweeter works very well.

The Markbass will be lighter, and will still have strong mids. Be prepared that between these two the MB neo will be pretty obvious; the ceramic in the Aguilar sounds larger/smoother.

Both great...personally I've got the LM3 with the Aguilar DB212 4 ohm, but I may get the new Markbass NY122 4 ohm when it's released. That might also be worth considering as I've heard MB spent a lot of time getting it right.

Markbass also have a new Club 1x12 and the NY 1x12 as well as the 2x12.

IMO you can't go wrong; depends on tonal goals etc.

If mids are important to you, you might try (if you haven't already) something from Schroeder.

Big fan of both Aggie 1x12 offerings(GS & DB). That said, I run a Berg HT112 with my MB LMII.

Did you mean the Markbass 121H? If so I tried it out against the Aggie DB 112 recently and found them very different tonally.

The 121H sounded scooped in the mids in comparison the the DB 112, but had more lows than the DB112. The Aggie was "louder".

Based on your description, I'd say you'd prefer the Aggie over the 121H. However you might like the New York 121 as well as it seems to have more mids and less lows than the 121H. I haven't tried the Club 121 yet so I can't comment on it.

What about the GS 112 or Epifani UL112? Those cabs both did it for me because they had good articulation in the mids and still had a solid bottom end.

Here in the UK there seems to be just one shop that does them all. I will drive there in a few weeks time and spend all day going through all of their 1x12 cabs. As I say I think they pretty much have the lot, should be a fun but long day!

Is that the Bass Merchant in Colchester?

Highly recommended. Great prices, cool showroom, lots of different cabs to try. I continue to buy everything from there including my new EBs, and my new Aguilar DB212 4 ohm came from there. They stock Markbass and Aguilar but drop them an email to check stock :)

Well in the end after a lot of listening and talking to other bassists my search for two 1x12 cabs has now ended. I have bought two 2x10 cabs!

I've now ordered two of the TC Electronics RS210 cabs. They have a smaller footprint than any of the 12's I tried, and stack into a scary looking tower that I hope will be gig friendly, certainly sounds good anyway.

So I will now have one cab at our rehearsal room, the other cab at home for practice and for small gigs one cab will do. For bigger gigs I'll give the scary-stack a go.

Thanks for all the help here, Bob.

Great choice Bob, those 2x10s are easy to move around and have a great sweet high end, with plenty of ommpph!
