Off Topic mark bass

sorry guys,i know its way off topic but i know there is lots of players here.
in the middle of a gig sat night my LMII just died (right at the start of "call me al" could of not been a worse song)
i changed my lead, turned the amp off and then back on and it worked fine,and sounded it normal amazing self for the rest of the night.
next day i set it up in the house and checked everything and it all works fine even the lead i switched.
anybody ever had this happen,it was pretty cold here that night and the gear had been in a van for about 6 hrs before the gig,could it be some strange conditsation problem.

i sent mark bass a mail but have not had a reply yet.i have also checked the web and have heard that they have a problem with the PCB (I have no idea what that is or if its true)
i know you cant fix it over the web,i am just asking if it has happened to anyone here.i am working 6 nights a week and i have not used my LMII head since sat night as i fear it might happen again

any help would be great

Dave get in contact ASAP with Proel, the UK Dsitributors they are as good as EBMM Customer Service, btw PCB is the printed circuit board where the amp components are mounted on (transistors, capacitors etc etc.)

Well, You said that happen in the middle of the gig, right?

In that case I must eliminate moisture condensation problem (cold/warm) and possible "shorted circuit"!

My opinion is that You have maybe overloaded/overheated Your amp, so security circuit noticed possible amp damage, and shut it off temporary!

What was Ohm-age (impedance) of bass cabinets connected to the amp at that moment? What was output level of the amp at that moment?

the cab is a mark bass 4x10 4omh

the amp was set, gain at 4 level at 4

i was playing a wedding so i was not loud.i normally use this cab and head i wonder am i doing any harm by running it at 4omh the whole time...

I see, hmmm..., in that case was some other kind of mufunction! :rolleyes:

Sorry, can't halp You like this, talking over the net, should open the amp and put it in the lab to research...etc., so it's really the best to visit customer service dpt.

It does sound like the unit's protection features activated. Was the unit properly ventilated? Covered with something maybe? Maybe an intermittent short in your speaker cables?
 
Sorry to hear you've had this problem, it's a fantastic amp otherwise. There's a lot of discussion about this in another forum (LMII Cutting Out - TalkBass Forums). Somtimes the Neutrix connectors are blamed; apparently the LMII is finnicky that way (I always use Neutrix and not a 1/4" TS speaker wire, so this has never happened to me), and sometimes is blamed as a general power overload issue, particularly if you're pushing it hard and are getting questionable power from the outlet you're plugged into.
 
Definitely sounds like the protection circuit. Maybe the LMII is sensitive to power fluctuations and something else on the same circuit (lights, big power amps, bar fridge thermostat) kicked in the LMII shut down as a precaution. The fact that it fired straight back up again suggests that was the case.
 
I have been hearing if this with lmII it also happened to me a few times and even would not put out sound when I took it to the perfect guitar to AB it to another amp..
 
cheap speaker cables without neutrik plugs did that to me when i tested the f1. got a good cable and everything was good.
if it happens again try wiggling a lil bit on the speaker cable and see if that doesnt do the trick :)

i left it on for 12 hrs on Tuesday just to see,checked it about 5-6 times and it was fine.i used it at 2 gigs this week sofar not a problem.i have since found out that other people have had issues with the power in the venue we where playing in,so i now wonder about this protection circuit thing,i am going to be in the same venue this weekend again so i must try to get a voltage reg forthe gig.

Ok cool.
I was also going to suggest it was a power regulator problem.
Fortunately this has never happened to me with my SA450, but I always keep my SABDDI in case of failure and I can then plug directly into the PA
 
Ok just got in from another 3 hour gig and it worked fine,i cant get a voltage reg for sat night so I an going to have to wing it and hope it doesnt cut out.i might see if I can get a socket just for my bass.
 
sounds like it doesn't happen often. If so, backup plan could be just cycling the power.

If it happens a couple times after the 1st event, then, yeah, definite backup plan material.
 
So since the mark bass cut out on me I have used it 6 times at different gigs and it worked fine every time them tonight back at the same venue it cut out again before the gig got started.i sorted it by routing the power through another room.so I think it must be the protection thing!
 
yup that and a voltage reg,should sort it out.

funny,the hotel we where in is only about 5 years old you would think is would have decent electrics.
