Im currenty having a change.

I have a Genz Streamliner 900, and I miss my Markbass LM3.

For power, tone, clarity, simplicity, price, the LM2/3 is hard to beat.

I am arranging a return on the Streamliner 900 for a Markbass..but which?!

I think my heart says go back to the LM3, but what about the F500?

The LM3 is quite a lot cheaper and its already small and light! Plus its so easy to use.

This brings me to the next part....Markbass cabinets.

These get slated sometimes on Talkbass, but Im interested in them...

I want something relatively small, light, and capable. I have a big rig, so I dont need huge cabs, just something high quality.

I was thinking the TRV 210 P, but Ive heard it can be a bit congested and boxy because its so small.

Anyone own a full mini markbass rig? Can you comment?

I want to bring the best out of my EBMMs...

Cheers

I've been using a Markbass SA 450, TRV 102P, and TRV 151P for almost 3 years now. I've never once thought about switching. The big caveat with Markbass cabs is that they are voiced to sound best in a live situation. So unfortunately, if your only experience is playing them in a store, your opinion may be that they're dull and lifeless. The cabinets (minus the Club and a few of the NY series) are voiced in the midrange.

As for the TRV 102P on its own, it can easily handle a small to medium gig. I use it at rehearsals all the time and have no complaints on the tone.

+1 on Melvin's experience. I used the LMTube 500 with Traveler 2X10 and Traveler 1X15 for a couple years. Never had a quibble with the sound from that combination. I had a quibble with the yellow cones. Now, call me shallow, but I never liked the look, and although the look is never as important as the sound, it was a factor for me. I now use a Berg 2X10 for small gigs and pair it with a GB Uber Quad for big gigs. I miss the portability of the Travelers, hard to beat both of those, if that's what's important to you. But I love the LM thru the Berg HS210. Just for completeness, I also have the SL900, and am still in the honeymoon period with that amp. I am in no hurry to off the MB head, still love that one. So I guess I'm destined to be a 2-head, 2-cab, mix-n-match kind of guy for a while.

Bye Streamliner? I just sold my Shuttlemax 12.0 & I loved it... want to get a 9.2 actually OR a light weight power amp for my Eden Nav I have the Streamliner 900 & its great but yes the lack of clarity can be an issue in the mix. That amp sounds DAMN good in my bedroom though :)

So screw the MB & get the Shuttlemax, promise you wont regret it.

Have a listen to the LM800 & LMTube 800 Heads (buy yourself a MB gig Bag for what ever LM head your end up with, they're Awesome!). With which every head suites your ears, I'd think either the NY804 if your want small, portable and a tone of a 4x10" cab without the size (plus you can add anther NY804 down the track and pull the full 800W @ 4 Ohms) or the NY122 (2 x12" 4 Ohms) which is a power house that will still fit easily into the Trunk of a Cab if need be, will have you selling your big rig.

Stay with the Streamliner. It's not the head, but your cabs that may be your issue. I use mine with the Uber Quad 1288, and it has bottom, and cuts the mix no problem. I actually have to CUT the bass to make it sit in the mix.

Try an gk fusion 550 and 12x2 neo cab with an MM SR5 it has the most power to punch and makes SR5 sound like it should, big clear growly punchy and thats running the amp flat..

I have the Traveller 210 and use it with the F500 and F1 amps. It is a very accurate , light weight rig that can cover small to medium size venues. I like to angle the cab with the Markbass Markstand for a more focused sound. For me , its always tough to make a judgement until you are actually on a gig. This setup cuts through the rhythm section quite nicely and keeps the Front of House mixer happy with its tight bottom end.

The STL is nice, but very bass heavy. Not that that's bad...I just need a more clear amp and although Markbass amps don't have the bells and whistles, the LM3 is clear, and very accurate. The STL is too much of a good thing as I already have other amps voiced to do the same.

I have the CMD102P combo. If I was to go separates, I would choose the LMKIII and the 102HF cab. The cab is a little bigger than the traveler but it just sounds so much more full.

Yep, LM3 on order. Going to have one of these cabinets:

Club 102 (VERY LIGHT!)
NY122 (More output)

Not sure which yet, but these are the ones im interested in. The Club 102 is 29lbs, a great fuller size cf to the very small cabs, and has a tilt back option, and is in a nice tolex.

The NY122 is quite slim, powerful, carpet covered, 4 ohm, 49lbs.

Not sure which to get...and they are quite rare cabs.
