I'm almost ambarassed to ask but I got to satisfy my curiosity...

I was wondering why do basses have preamps but guitars don't? Wouldn't that allow to shape the tone you could get out of a guitar? Is there any electric guitar out there with a preamp?

By the way my Godin as a preamp for the piezo pickup but I've never seen this feature for mag pickups...

Sorry if this is a retarded question:eek:

It is a valid question...much like..."Why do men have nipples?"

Seriously you want a clean sound for bass with a wide tonal frequencies and some dirt from the guitar with more focused mids if anything.. EMG's are active pickups and are voiced really well for some. Our ears are trained for passive guitars with the amps pre and power amp providing the eq.
