I found a late model (3 band eq, six bolts, small bridge) MMSR4 at the local music store that plays really well. the only trouble is that somebody has stripped the finish off the body and left the wood raw. I'm not sure if this will cause any major problems(?). I also noticed that the body is two pieces of wood split down the middle with some kind of shaped glue joint. Is this typical? From the appearance of the joint and the blemished grade of wood used, I'm thinking that the body had an opaque finish. Is it likely that this is an ash body?

If I were to buy it, should I have it refinished? Does Ernie Ball do any refinishing work?

It was probably opaque. 2 piece bodies are sometimes used. It could be ash , alder or poplar.

As far as a refinish, it would be less expensive to replace the body. Talk to our repair dept:
