Hi all, this is my first post here, but I'm a regular at TB. Ok, so here is my story:

I was connected (through a friend) to someone who owned a preEB Stingray...which he was looking to sell. I tried the bass out, and that was it! I LOVED IT! I mean, I have never been impressed with a bass as much as I was this one. The only problem was that I did not have all the money that was needed to buy it at the time. I put down a "deposit" ($500, it was basically 1/2 the price of the bass) and he said he would give it to me in a week's time when I paid him the rest. Within a few days, I see my friend, who has money for me...from the guy selling the Ray, who was giving me my deposit back...apparently someone else had everything up front. I was quite upset, but I thought that things would work themselves out if I just kept looking.

Earlier today, I saw a craigslist ad for an '82 Ray, Natural, and like new, $1200!!!. I mean, not a ding, scratch...from the pictures it looked like someone bought it 27 years ago and kept in under their bed in the case. Absolutely excited, I called right away, only to find out that the bass was sold a few days ago. For the second time, I had my heart broken.

So...I'm here to give it another try. :) Anyone know how I would go about acquiring a preEB Stingray? Thanks everyone (and I do know this is an EB forum...I figured no other place would have more concentrated info on Stingrays than here though :D )

True. I guess in my mind the one I "lost" just had so much mojo...trying to recapture that. Thanks though, definitely will look into the new stuff.

The new ones have just as much mojo if not more.

Check out the "new" Stingray classics.

All the coolness factor of the old basses, but with updated extras (and a warranty).

Plus you get to ding it up yourself.

Can't beat that.

I second what the others have suggested about the new "Classic" range.

However, if you are absolutely determined to buy a pre-EB, a reputable dealer is your best bet. If you search Gbase you'll find several, and also Ishibashi currently have three '77, one '78, and one '81 in stock.

I should mention that the one pictured has been altered a bit. I put a rosewood board on it and changed the color a bit...mostly to torture myself, I guess.

Thats what I was going to say...They will be making a natural one as well. So you can have your 2 band Maple/Natural with mutes, with modern dependability plus warranty.
