How do I know my EVH Music Man is real?

Hi, I had my EBMM for quite some time now and it plays and sounds great but i noticed somethen different about it then other Music Mans. I bought it off of eBay and the guy was very trustworthy and told me when making the EBMM they had so many productions that they had some made in Japan/Korea or somewhere like that in Asia. My Ernie ball DOES NOT have the EVH signature or the MADE IN marke on the back of the headstock. It does Say Erinie ball music man like every other one but no EVH logo or back logo. It even has a Music Man registration number on the silver plate that bolts the neck. Everything is to the same specs as the Original Music Man, I never played another EBMM side by side but im pretty sure they have the same pickups. The pickups are the only thing im not 100% sure on. They have never been changed so i doubt they are different. SO CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

tommy, you goof....play nice. ;)

Post your serial # up here on the board, and either Jon or Derek, both EBMM employees, can look it up for you when they get a free hand. If they can pull up information from that number, then I'd hedge all bets that you have an actual EVH, OR that you have an "EVH", so to speak, but minus signature (some were made this way in the transition period between the signature model and the current model, the Axis, etc.)

If not, then the chances are likely that you have an Axis EX, which you can read more about here:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4460

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1836

If you're saying that the "Made in San Luis Obispo, California U.S.A." isn't on the back of the headstock, this might be the case...however, I am always open for correction, so we'll see.

Hope we can help you to get to the bottom of this...if you've been duped, we can make arrangements for this seller, involving lighter fluid, chocolate syrup, a bag of fire ants, and a 3 ft piece of rebar (that's where Urkel takes over...I'm out at that point. I don't even wanna know... :D)

Bet you any money its an Axis EX. Dont get hung up there St Edwardo, I have a US Axis AND a Axis EX (EXport's are assembled in Japan from US parts - BTW no EBMM guitar is built anywhere but the US or Japan, certainly not Korea ;) ).

Both are amazing guitars, in fact the EX is a little prettier and dare I say it, sweeter sounding...but there's not too much to tell them apart buildwise, other than the EX being built to the original EVH body layout.

Man, I know some dudes that can really make this guy talk....heheheheh....They can get to the bottom of anything.....hehehehehe.......you would be surprised at how much dudes are willing to spill when great whites are looking at you like a snack!......seriously...hope you get things worked out.

My question is this? Besides all the obviously "EVH" stuff missing...how does it play? Hopefully like all the others and it makes you feel bad when you put it down like my JP's do!

Good luck with it.

I think you'll have to wait until Monday, cause the EBMM folk work a 4-day week and won't be back in the office until Monday.

Didn't Aziah already check this for you? I have the same info she does.

I think Azia checked it for me in the same time ;-) Look here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3777371838&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

And this is what she answer me: "It sounds like you have what we call an Axis EX. It was in a transitional period when Van Halen was no longer with the company that
we produced these models. Basically all the American parts were sent
over to Japan to be assembled. So it wouldn't have the EVH signature on
it. The serial number does come up in our system as a traslucent red
hardtail EVH but there's no way for me to tell if it's one of the ones
that has the signature on it or not. I hope this helps you out. Thanks
for your interest in Music Man."

I like the post lawsuit line in the auction. Some people will say anything to sell stuff.
Like (Sorry Jon) that Burnt Apple is a rare color. I couldn't resist.

Exactly... ho-hum, just another bit of gratuitous buzz tacked onto an inappropriate description effectively describing a non-event...

I think my assertions regarding the "real world" value of these "non-signature" EVHs are about to be demonstrated, as well - to whit: they are not worth the same dosh as an EVH with signature to either players or collectors...

As regards the Axis EX, I think spkirby's EX is one of the most beautiful EBMM guitars I've ever seen - I really covet one of those for my Axis collection! :)

Yes, that auction is mine.
I described it as post lawsuit as a figure of speach that means......
If they put his signature on the headstock, there would be a lawsuit....

Either way, a few people here have told me that it is what I descibe it as. It is a EVH without the headstock logo.
But it is still a kick ass guitar with all the same parts as the other EVH models.
I hope this doesn't confuse anyone. I know alot of you know exactly what it is, and that I am a straight up guy with no BS.
Thanks,
Steve
