Merry Christmas to you as well! It's been a good year for me: my family is well, my employment is better, and musically I've gotten two brand new guitars: a Martin (cause EBMM doesn't make acoustics), and my new JP6 ; )
My fingers and ears have been blessed.

I agree with the concept of playing more guitar in 2005, however with me it's more HOW I play. I am terrible about playing the intro to Back In Black, then the intro to Smoke on the Water and so on... I honestly only play about 30 seconds of each song, all without any other instruments, cds, metronome or anything. I usually play each of the songs poorly, then on to the next. The next time I pick up the guitar, it's the same thing. Only recently did the lightbulb come on and I said "Maybe the reason I'm not getting any better is that I play poorly, never correct what I'm doing wrong, then put the guitar down. I actually may be pretty good-after all, I do play everything the same way I practiced it. I'm just practicing everything wrong! I really need to work on that this year. Any practice tips would be greatly appreciated-I need all the help I can get!

Practice.....many different concepts and ways to go about it. I tend to do warm up exercises and scales, modes, chord progressions. I have a routine I follow constantly. I would recommend a book that would help get you started in making a routine. Or a DVD by someone like Petrucci, Satriani, or anyone. NOT to play their songs, but to learn routines and exercises to make you a better player. After the routine, then play the songs you want to play. I will take one song I want to learn and just continue to play it until I have played it completely. That way there, I know the whole song, and not just bits and pieces.....btw....Merry Christmas.
