Hello, I am looking at getting a used amp and have found both of these for the same price: mesa triple rectifier and mesa stiletto trident. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these amps and/or opinions on the better one. I play many different styles, however it is mainly concentrated around all types of metal and shred. Thanks in advance.

Stiletto is more of an 80's Marshall tone. Triple Rec is more of a modern 90's high gain tone. Based on your type of music, I would choose the Triple Rec. You can still get classic-ish tones from it if you turn your gain down, your presence up, and use an overdrive pedal.

Two completely different amps (as already mentioned). However, I think I would probably go with the Stiletto. I really don't care for either amp that much, but if I had to choose one and have the ability to deviate from a single sound I would go with the Stiletto (more of a spectrum in my opinion).

You will get more of a "variety" of sounds, including some very metalish ones; the amp is somewhat "glassy", little less dimensional, tubish sounding, especially at high volumn compared to Marshall though.

Stiletto, you won't be disappointed in what that amp can do.

I've owned a Triple Rec, and as much balls that it has, it just wasn't giving me the diversity that other amps can, such as the Mark V did. Plus, tube changes in that Rec will be a thorn in your side if you play it out a lot. The Stiletto II is my next amp that I'd get that could very well eventually replace my Mark V, but we'll visit down that road later in time.

From my ears, the Stiletto has the better lead tone at high gain. Just my .02

Super high gain isn't really my cup o tea anymore, but the stiletto can def get you there just fine.

I'm contemplating getting a cheaper alternative and saving some money for a new guitar down the road, does anyone have a good alternative to one of these, with a cheaper used priced tag. I'm looking at the peavey xxx (the original version), does anyone have experience with amps like these. Thanks again :)

That's a pretty monster amp. A loud one too. It has great gain, it was basically step 2 in the Satch signature before it became the JSX head.

It's a great amp with notably great gain channels. Many people still complain about sterile clean channels, but Satch and Peavey basically design theirs to be compatible with pedals. So its +/- thing depending on what your set up is.

But its a solid big amp, with an excellent price tag.

I would go with the Blackstar Venue series. It's very affordable, and they sound great. They have an output wattage for whatever your needs are, but I wouldn't go above a 50 watt. I would rather go with a lower wattage amp and drive the tubes harder for better tone.
