Hey Ballers, I'm still alive!
Well, after an insane C.O.M. Fest (16 band - Conn. Original Music Festival) weekend beginning on Thursday last week, followed by a brief period of vacation continuing until late last night, I'm finally back for a few hours. I'll shortly be heading out to pick up the Dart and cruise back down to the beach house for some more fun in the sun, and visit with my sis who flew up from Virginia for the weekend.
Week & 3 days in review:
Thursday 8/4
10:30am pick up backstage packets from printers, head to work at pharmacy
6:00pm out from the pharmacy, ditch the shirt/tie and head over to Home Depot and Lowe's to buy various tarps, rope, stakes, etc for extra shade backstage.
8:00pm hit up the festival grounds to set up the tents for backstage & vendors, and hook the lanyards onto the backstage passes
10:00pm Hit up Margaritas with the partners from YYE and a few other festival sponsors
Friday 8/5
12:30am Leave Margaritas, walk (?) across the street to the hotel rooms we had booked
7:00am up & shower, had a horrible continental breakfast, down the street to the grounds at
8:00am Port-a-Pot delivery
9:15am down the street to local Coors Distributor, who printed up all the signage and direction markers for the festival
12:00noon begin setting up the staging, and start truck runs to American Ladders for scaffolding
4:30pm Massive 1hr thunderstorm break
6:00pm finish scaffolding construction and stage setup, begin barricade construction.
10:45pm everyone begins whining about sunburn, head to Margaritas
Saturday 8/6 - COM Fest day!
1:00am leave Margaritas and go pick up the Miller Van & deliver to grounds for backstage enjoyment
2:00am realize there is a plumbing issue with the beer taps for van
3:00am plumbing issue fixed, beers in celebration
3:30am walk across the street to hotel
7:15am wake up and head to grounds for
8:00am sound load-in
8:15 delegate unload/setup responsibilities, and highway exit ramp direction markers
11:00am emergency run back to the music store for extra drumheads, the bigass box of EB strings & goodies (thanks Dan & Steve!)
11:20am begin band sound-check
12:45 first band takes the stage
1:07pm receive our first noise complaint, delivered by 2 boys in blue who, after viewing our noise until 11pm permit, decided that they wanted to hang out and watch the show
1:45pm supervisor for boys in blue shows up and yells at them to get back to work
3:40pm noise complaint #6 (yes #6) delivered by 3 boys plus supervisor, supervisor yells at 2 other beat officers who had shown up "just to check it out"
6:30pm extra police security detail arrives (part of the town's requirement, we pre-paid for it)
10:45 last band hits the stage, remember that noise permit expires at 11pm
11:00pm police tell us it's fine to keep on going
11:20pm supervisor shows up in a fury
11:25pm soundboard shut down
11:26pm stage power/electrical generator turned off
11:27pm guitarist for band throws a hissy fit, receives an escort out
11:50pm begin tear-down of soundboard & gear
Sunday 8/7
1:15am Yours truly climbs up a 25+ft extension ladder to begin removing banners on (non electrical) telephone poles
1:17am ladder suddenly collapses under my fatarse, pinning the hand of the ladder stabilizer in between 2 rungs (NOT a pretty site), and leaving me giving the pole a huge bearhug
1:22am after much yelling, a bouncer finally lumbers across the field to free Colin's hand from the ladder rungs, and extend the ladder up to reach me
1:23am Beer, cleanup and disassembly continues
2:45am walk down the street to the hotel
10:00am wake up and wonder why I am so tired
11:00am back at the grounds to collapse the staging and scaffolding, and yes, I'm up on the ladder again to finish taking down the banners.
4:30pm the grounds are finally clear, trucks loaded
4:50pm unload trucks up at YYE
5:10pm decide that Margaritas sounds like a good idea
5:20pm arrive at Margaritas, waitress sees the 5 of us walk in and immediately puts in an order with the bartender
5:40pm food arrives at the table
8:00pm leave Margaritas and head home
8:30pm Sleep, followed by my beach vacation, until:
Wed 8/10
7:30pm realize I forgot to ship a customer's guitar out on the previous Friday (oops) call UPS to set up an overnight delivery, drive to store to pick up guitar.
7:48pm Answering machine at the store says there are 22 messages. I check the email situation, and it says I have 47 new emails. That's too many for me to handle on vacation.
I listened to them last night when I got back, and got to the emails this morning before I went to the pharmacy Hey BAIMSTER, I'm OK and so is your LUKE money
(I thought the messages would all be from Koogs or somethin freaky like that
)
Oh yeah, couple pics of some bands that were taken before/during the destruction of the digi-cam:
