First off let me say the first time I heard a Music Man Stingray at Dees Music I fell in love with the tone. The best I have ever heard in my life hands down. The problem is I just can't stand the neck on the Stingray it's to big for my hand. I did try a Sterling at Guitar Center and just loved the neck, it was perfect for my hand. But although I did love the tone I got from the Sterling, it for me does not compare to the Stingray's tone. So long story short, is it possible to order a Music Man Sterling fitted with the Stingray pickups and electronics? I tried asking this question of sales via e-mail but could never get a straight answer. I think they misunderstood what I was asking. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this I honestly do appreciate it and and any help you can give me. :D

You're in luck, starting mid July at Summer NAMM, you'll be able to order a Stingray SLO special, which is a Stingray body (electronics and all) with a Sterling neck from your favorite dealer.

In the immortal words of Sone Cold Steve Austin, "OH HELL YEAH!" This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I have friends going to NAMM so I will ask them to take pics :D So now it's time to start saving and get down to Dees Music so I can buy one when it hits retail.

so not hating on the SR here, but you can get pretty close to the SR growl with a sterling if you put the pickup switch to the far back position and tweek the eq a bit. plus IMHO the sterling looks much sleeker than the SR, the stingray kinda has a fat bottom (ST joke ;) ).

I never really thought the Stingray neck was that thick. I think it's thinner than my 78 P bass neck. At least it feels thinner.

Just how much thinner is the Sterling neck?

Is it similiar to a J neck?

I have never picked up a J bass before but from what I have heard it is a lot like a J neck. All I know is the Sterling neck is nice and then and shaped perfectly for my hand. But everyone is different in what is comfortable for them to play.

my first bass was a fender squire jbass. when i was deciding whether or not to buy my sterling, everything i read boasted about the sterling neck and compared it to a JBass neck. now that i own one, i have to say that it blows a jbass neck out of the water hands down. also every bass player and even guitar player i know thats held my sterling has commented on the neck immediately, even the ones who know nothing about MM basses... It really is that awesome.

I find the Stingray neck profile extremely agreeable. I've never thought they were chunky or beefy or any of that net-speak stuff.

But the Sterling neck is just something to behold. This idea of a Sterling neck on a Stingray body is very interesting.
