NGD: MM Axis pickups installed into Sterling AX40 w/ LOTS OF PICS

Found a nice set of Axis pickups on craigslist. Paid $120 shipped and I am so excited to score a pair of these legendary pups. Just installed them in my Gold AX40 and they sound fantastic. Better note/chord definition. They are not as hot as the Sterling's but that only helps in bringing out their clean side. They are a lot warmer too. They fit without any problems and they now have some height adjust-ability because the AX40 pickups have foam and springs underneath the pickups. They do not touch the body wood like the Axis. The Axis pups were a shade taller but by compressing the foam/springs everything worked out perfectly. I could not find any specs on the heighth so I just adjusted by trial and error.

If anyone knows the spec on pickup heighth please let me know - thanks !!!

The AX40 pups have a shiny appearance while the Axis have a matte (dull) finish. The Axis pups look more expensive and are a lot heavier than the originals. Interesting?

This is my first experience with the MM line and it won't be my last. Now I need either a red quilted or Rosewood Super Sport.

Wow waswell, that's really cool. You got some killer pickups there at a great price. Those are pretty hard to find because they suit the Axis so well, assuming they came off an Axis.

I have the Blue AX40 that I just adore. I guess it does make sense that the Axis triangle tab fit right into the AX40's square tab. Nice when stuff works out like that.

Congrats!

Welcome to the forum. We do however have an unwritten rule around here…your guitar doesn't exist unless we see pics! We all love seeing new stuff. You know, gives us G.A.S.

I never noticed that before about the triangle tabs. It scared me at first because I didn't remember that during the install. I just ran back to the guitar and they are indeed a triangle. WHEW - had my heart skipping a beat there :)

How about a pic or two of your blue AX40? I would love to score that color.

Wonder what new color is scheduled for 2012?

As far as for 2012…I know the new SBMM color(s) won't disappoint.

I'm in love with your AX40. Thanks for sharing that awesome axe.

You really have a nice collection of guitars.

Hopefully we will know by next weekend what colors are in store.

Thanks! The SBMM line has lots to offer, the silo is one of my faves, JP series are just killer. Lots of bang for your buck.

Oh, and Pat Park is the SBMM guy. He know is stuff. You have questions, he's got answers.
