This is not a paid endorsement, nor am I looking for a free t-shirt or anything - I just wanted to comment on the consistency of EBMM guitars.

I had been looking for a dual humbucker guitar to backup my strat and because there are no local stores who carry musicman guitars (my local GC has the basses but not the guitars) I decided to order 3 JP6 guitars from MF with the thought that I would keep one and send two back prior to having to pay the credit card bill (don't tell MF).

When I got them I couldn't believe the consistency between them - at the end of the day - I couldn't decide which one to keep - I also couldn't tell them apart (aside from the serial number) - so I let my wife pick. Ended up keeping the one that had a slightly redder tint to the rosewood on the fingerboard.

I would definitely order a MM again sight unseen - now I have to start saving for an Axis.

Didn't get a chance to take pics yet - its the basic Redburst model (no Piezo). I'm definitely not a shredder - I play mostly hard rock type stuff - I was playing some Steely Dan on it last night and it sounded awesome. Plus the tremolo is great, I can tune up or down with no locking nut and it stays in tune really well.

The Axis is nice too, I just prefer the body shape of the JP to the flat top on the Axis.

I like your style sir,

Yes it's true, new or used, I'll happily buy a ball over the internet without trying it as I know the feel will be familiar.

3 balls at once. Wow, you sir are brave, luckily you had a wife to show you reason. LOL

superb response Steve :)

Yeah, the consistency and high-end of every single instrument made by MM is almost legendary. And it's definitely the trade mark. It's just another reason why there ain't no other choice, but EBMM!

I've done this a few times.... with some manufacturers you pretty much have to do this. Having played more than a few EBMM's, it's one of the few brands I'd be willing to buy sight-unseen (new, anyway).

This same consistency is what caused my wife to ask why I had to have 2 BFR JP7s, just different colors.

I've ordered four EBMMs; all were perfect. One of the only two companies I'd say that about. I recently got a RW-necked Albert Lee to replace my 2006 Limited Albert, and decided to swap the hardware around. Both guitars were setup by me, and when I flipped all the chrome-for-gold both guitars strung-up and played the same. This includes changing trussrod adjust wheels. Even the trems came out the same (...Twilight Zone theme...).
Consistent all right, consistently excellent!-Eric

I use to do the same thing back when I played the "other" brands.

Great minds think alike!

While I realize the thread title is "MM Consistency", I would like to point out that MusicMan guitars consistently show up in shipping boxes addressed to me, and consistently find themselves in my hands and on the guitar stand on stage when the band plays....Although I use the adverb, it only serves to support the argument using the noun....In other words, what EBMM guitars do consistently provides proof of their consistency.

I rest my case.

Or cases....all seventeen of them, as the case may be (but just until the weekend ;) )

I like to make structured assertions too, but the time invested in setting up the syntax and puns therein is just too much time for a EBMM guitar forum!

Anyways, back to the topic, as a previous Les Paul fanatic (and PRS Singlecut too, but less so PRS) having consistent quality among the instruments is really hit and miss. There is nothing like going through three axes and sending them all back because of something or other. Whether its faulty pick ups, poorly fretted necks, loose components at the bridge or headstock etc. Not to knock on Gibson or Epiphone, but these are the sort of things that happen when production reaches the level they have.

When you play an EBMM you can tell the luthier and tech in SLO weeped as it left the factory.

do you get charged a re-stocking fee?

According to their site...
**Stringed instruments priced at $1999.00 or more, must be returned within 10 days of shipment. Return items not meeting these requirements may be refused or a restocking fee of up to 25% may be assessed.
