 Hi there I have recently bought my first MM EVH and since you have made some of them maybe you can help.
I noticed that the neck has been shimmed with a little piece of wood to provide the right neck angle. I know the neck was never removed before so thi is original from the factory. Are all the evh necks shimmed ? Or did they change the angle of the neck cavity throughout the production??
May be you can tell it by the distance of the side dots of the neck to the maple top in the upper frets, does it increase??
Because I even shimmed it a little more cause i didn´t get the strings close enough to the fretboard.
Since you can´t change the Pickup height with the shimming (well just a small card board) the string to PU distance changes a little.
Do you think this will be noticeable in the overall sound?? I didn´t hear anything (won´t play jazz on this guitar:)) Sound great.

produced 2.09.95<(shipped) neck cavity says 2.07.1995

How many trans black EVH have been produced???

Thanks a lot, I think my next one is a Silouette.

My EVH came from the factory with a shim. Mine was plastic though. I've since shimmed it more for the same reasons you mentioned.

I don't see a reason to change pickup height since you really didn't move the strings away from the pickups. Follow me... The string height at the bridge is itentical to before. By raising the body end of the neck with a shim, you actually lower the nut becaus the top of the neck pocket becomes a fulcrum that the whole neck pivots on. So you've slightly changed the geometry of the strings on the guitar but the distance from the pickups is not really different enough (if different at all) to make a difference in tone.

Congrats on the EVH. They're nice guitars.

We have never used wooden shims. Only plastic. If there is a wood shim it was put in elsewhere
