This guys name is Marco Sfogli, he is the amazing guitarist on James Labries new solo album Elements of Persuasion. Marco really is a phenominal player, influenced strongly by JP. Here is a link to his multimedia page, scroll down to the link reading Alone (rhythm take) and check it out. This is the best guitar tone i have ever heard. He is running his JP 7 directly through a Mesa Triaxis and is using the red lead 1 channel completely dry. Unbelievable!!!!!!

That guy is really great....but what`s strange is how much James LaBrie is drooling over this guys playing when he`s been with a guy by the name of John Petrucci all these years!!! Maybe he`s just trying to fire him up but its kinda funny seeing him react to his playing like he`s never heard anyone play like that before!

Ohh i dont know about that guys, Marco takes a different approach than JP and I like it, like it alot. I can see why James is impressed. He holds back somewhat more than JP and then releases a flurry of notes to complement the end. A great player indeed!!! Dont get me wrong JP is my alltime favourite player, but I reckon Marco is very good. You have to hear him on the new EoP album to truly appreciate his work!

Yeah, I've commented on this before too. James totally over-reacts to the guys playing. He's real good but give me a break. At one point, I think James says "What would Andy Timmons think?!?!?"

Ya gotta let James slide. He's Canadian after all. :)

PS

The tone is good but that doesn't sound dry to me by a long shot.

Labrie looks stoned out of his mind, which would explain why he thinks the music sounds so good. :) Another thing is that in those clips Sfogli is improvising some of the leads, and that may be something JP doesn't do that often in the studio. I do agree that its a bit overreactive though. Great playing and tone on the Labrie album, but he definitely has a long haul ahead of him before he'll be hanging with JP or Timmons. ;)

I think his playing is really good. LaBrie is probably hyping him a bit as it must be one of the most daunting gigs on the planet - stepping into JP's shoes in a way. I think he's done a good job of being different to JP but still being an amazing player :)
