MM Petrucci with piezo - Problem

Hello,
I'm the proud owner of a Musicman Petrucci with Piezo.

The mono output is causing me an issue: when using it, the sound is distorted/crunchy. I tried with another amplifier and got the same problem.

The stereo output of the guitar sounds OK (magnetic pickups).

Any idea what the issue could be? I'm afraid it might be the wiring to the mono output.
I'll try to change the battery, just in case.

It is most likely the battery.
