The guitar store I go to was out of the RR Slinkys I usually buy. So I bought Hybrid Slinky Nickel Wound .009 - .046 Orange pack 2222's to try out. I love these strings, Very nice. With the heavier low strings on my Axis SS it lifted
my vintage trem so it's floating. After stretching and tuning up, intonation
and all that. I can go up and down on the tremelo bar and it stays in perfect tune.
The neck is straight and the action is set to where I like it. I'm wondering though with the heavier bottom 3 strings and floating trem is there anything to worry about in the long run since there is more stress on the neck? Should I add another Spring? Anyways the tone on the 2222's rocks and I like mixing things up sometimes with new tones.

There is nothing to worry about at all. If it plays well and you like the action then you are good to go.

If you want the trem where it was before just tighten the claw screws until the bridge is no longer floating, another spring is not especially required. You may need a slight adjustment of the action but that's all.

Most questions you ever want answered with regard to changing string gauge are also dealt with in the FAQ section on the Music-Man.com website.

When I used to play FR guitars (way back in my non-EBMM days) I always added an extra spring if I went over anything 9-42. I had absolutely NO technical knowledge for doing so, I just liked the way the strings reacted, and the trem arm for that matter, with a bit more sturdiness and tension.

Nothing to worry about whatsoever man. I have had my Silo Special and the 20th Silo set up to float for a long time. They stay in tune and I have not had a single issue with the neck. Keep in mind that the LUKE models are set up to float which is the same trem.
