After seeing the custom AL with MM90's that BP posted a while ago I really started thinking about getting a P90/MM90 guitar myself. Well actually that thought had haunted my mind for quite some time now, but this time I want to follow up on it. So some questions directed at my fellow knuckleheads:
- what do you like about your MM90 Balls, more specifically what sets them apart from your other guitars soundwise?
- Does the silent circuit do a good job at eliminating the hum normally associated with these pickups? Also, if the battery goes dead, do you still get output?

Any other experiences/remarks are welcome, thanks!

You still get output when the battery dies but the guitar will be susceptible to 60 cycle hum as the battery powers the silent circuit. The silent circuit does a great job at eliminating hum.

I like my MM90's because of their "snarlyness". They are a pretty aggressive sounding single coil. They also clean up nicely when you roll back the volume (even compress a bit). I've used mine for rock, blues, jazz and country projects. Tonally they are in between a humbucker and a traditional single coil.

I think A.J summarize it very well. You need to try MM90 pups cause they are just fantastic. I have always one my MM90 guitar when I gig either the Axis Sport or My Albert lee

Ash wood and MM90 is a great match

Coolest clean tones that I've experienced in a long time. The clean is a very "full, thick" clean. They dirty up quite well & the silent circuit makes you forget that you're not playing humbuckers.

Thanks guys for the input, much appreciated!

I'm looking for a bit of a 'raw' sound, from the description A.J. gave I think that will be the case!

I see some MM90 in my future, perhaps even fairly soon..

I'm using my Axis Supersport MM90 this week for worship service. Practiced last night. I'm only using 2 sounds this week. One is a very "bell" like U2ish running just the neck pickup. So nice, even the drummer went out of his way to compliment the tone last night. The other is a bit dirty, slight echo, eq'd to bring out the mids a bit. Great soloing sound or for some harmonic 2 string riffs to cut through.

I use this guitar whenever there are very differing sound requirements or when I have to do the U2 type stuff (which is 90% of the songs in contempory Christian music). It works very well. Oh.....I'll add that this was the first rehersal with the cobalt 10's on the guitar. I would very much recommend them. The tuning stability is extrordinary!

Love the MM90s too, very versatile. Do you guys find the bridge MM90 is a bit weaker/quieter than the neck?
