I swapped out the MM90s in my ASS MM90 for Dimarzio DLXs as I needed more grunt. Well, the current project I'm working on needs a more raw and rockabilly sound and lessdirt. So back went the MM90s as temporary stop gap whilst I saved up some money for some nice p90s.

I originally found the MM90s to be a bit hard and stiff sounding (I know that probably makes no sense- but this is tone we are talking about- Well all talk rubbish when it comes to tone...:D ). I had to have a bit of routing done to accomodate the dimarzios so the MM90s are just a tad further away from the strings now, and wow! what a difference. They sound much sweeter now. And I'm glad to have the guitar back to almost stock.

I just need to get used to the noise from the pickups (I certainly couldn't cope with P90s if it wasn't for the silent circuit, thats for sure).

Now if only there was a way of installing a MM90 in my SiloSpec without spending money and cutting out bits of wood...

Isn't the stock Silo Special routed for a humbucker? You could use a humbucker sized p90 (phat cat) or others, without having to rout your SS

Good idea- I would just have to mod the pick guard and the wiring. There seems to be lost of choice now for Humbucker sized P90s.

Maybe after I have fitted the EMG x series to my Luke...

By the way, anyone know the specs of the MM90? resistance, wire type etc... I think the magnet type is Alnico V right?

Yes Alnico 5, on my Al mm90 bridge pickup it registers 8.30k resistance

MM90's always sound good. Never understand the need for hotter pups, just get humbuckers, the MM90 sweetness is awesome.

The strange thing is, I fnd I don't need that much dirt to get a screaming lead tone with the MM90s, whereas with humbuckers I find I have to pile it on.

Very strange...
