I have a pretty old and very much used LUKE II. Definitly the Guitar of my dreams (actually one of them)! Feels, plays and sounds wonderful and is my go-to guitar!

But from time to time, I´m thinking of changing the Pickups, because usually I do like passives more than actives. When I´m at it, I think, it would be cool to go for a splittable neck-humbucker, middle singlecoil and splittable bridge-humbucker. So it can cover the SSS/HSS and HsH-Sounds; maybe a little more Petrucci-flavor to the Luke-sauce ;-)

What do you guys think about it? Maybe a little blasphemy, because it´s a Signature-Guitar an it actually sounds cool as is... Try and error would be possible and maybe worth a try, but usually, i´m a "if-it-works-don´t-touch-it"-guy

I would advice you to buy and Luke 3 HH. Passive dimarzios and great single coil tones on positions 2 and 4. The humbucker positin are amazing off course.

I have 3 Luke IIs. About 3 years ago, I modded one with a Dimarzio AT-1 and two Area 58s. It sounds great, but I use the other two way more often. I will be reverting it back to stock soon. I am not a fan of all EMG pickups, but the EMGs that come in the Luke II really are amazing and perfect for that guitar. My $0.02.

I second the above advice to get a Luke III if you want passive tones. Luke II and Luke III = best of both worlds.

Thanks for the replies,

My main problem is, that I have too much guitars ... actually, you can have NEVER enough!

I´d rather go for a Pet before buying a L3. This one is not that much my cup of tea. IF I get a new one, then the way of something completly different would make more sense (I´m horny for a Pet for a loooong time ;-) )

But my wife tells me, she won´t accept a new Guitar, so my thoughts are about switching Pickups...

In almost all of my axes, I have switched Pickups from time to time, but the EMGs in my Luke DO sound great and work fine, so I´m a little torn.

If you have too many guitars, sell some! Use the cash to buy a JP AND bring your wife away for a nice weekend/dinner/ somewhere. If you have fewer guitars and you get to treat your love, she'll be delighted. And if you a Luke and a JP you don't need another guitar, right? :)

well, as simple as it sounds, I think this is really the way to go for me.... too bad, most of my guitars are rather cheap. But let´s switch from quantiy to quality :)

I hope, I´ll find a nice JP6
