I've always loved the look of the Albert Lee, never had the privilege of playing one.

How does the HH version hold up to modern alternative music? What's the neck profile like? For reference, I find the JP to be really comfortable for my hands.

Thanks!

AL HH is a fantastic guitar, can cover a lot of ground, but the neck is different from the JP. JP is neck is shallower with a flatter radius.

I see Albert Lee HHs in a lot of the Guitar Centers, probably second in popularity only to the JP. Maybe you could find a GC that has one, or visit Dubaldo's in Manchester...? I had no interest in the AL HH, or any new guitar, until I happened to play one. I wound up buying it.

even Deano Mr Metal himself from oz has one on his wish list so I guess AL HH can manage some good metal tunes ;)

Regardless of what your interpretation of "modern alternative music" is there's no way you could go wrong with a HH Albert...two humbuckers and a mahogany body make for some huge tone! For high gain metal stuff a JP (or in Dean's caes a Luke) may be your best bet but I really can't thing of anything "alternative" that the HH Albert couldn't handle...!

I'd wished I had taped that it was really cool to watch. The HH Albert does not have the same radius as the JP but it is more than capable of producing modern music (whatever that is)

here's another AL in 'modern music' example, a composition from composer Glenn Branca:

i used my '97 AL SSS to record the latest Glenn Branca album, "The Ascension: The Sequel" and for every live performance as well... the Glenn Branca Ensemble is going to be unveiling his newest composition "Symphony #15 (For Strange Orchestra) next month, perhaps my HH AL will make an appearance... either one (HH or SSS) works great for me within 'modern' music...

Thanks so much for all the responses. I've been wanting to get into a mahogany guitar with lower output pickups. Looks like the HH AL might just be the thing.

So many amazing colors to choose from though. *drools*

I personally think that the Roasted Maple/Black Sugar AL HH's are gonna be killer from BrownDog's mock-up. But again, that's just me. :D

It's super versitile. I only have played them in stores, but play traditional artists like Van Halen and Pantera on the Al and it shines. (yes, I'm playing...saying traditional....but the thing does work great for those).

I hear ya on the color choices. I'd be going back and fourth between the vintage burst and black/black.

Really Jack, I always thought that the Coral and Powder Blue the best, but again, I personally think the Black Sugar's gonna blow those out of the water.

Honestly? ALL the HH AL colors are great - PB is my fave - and I happened to be lucky and got one from one in stock. I am dying for the Vintage White though - awesome looker!

If you can play it, you can play it on an AL HH.
But please remember the neck width and depth, string spacing and fretboard radius are somewhat different, so if this is an issue for you you should see if you can find any AL to try out because the neck profiles are the same for all models.
If the profile works for you - ROCK ON

Exactly, perfectly said Mr.Greene, I think you will like the AL once you try one, most GC's have an HH Al in stock nowdays.

And on the color front, they are all awesome, I prefer Coral Red, Mint Green and the Vintage though and I read somewhere on the bass side that Coral Red and Mint Green might be going bye-bye soon.

What can you most closely compare the string spacing and neck width to? Strat, Les Paul, Axis?
